It sounds like you had a deficiency of B12 and folic acid at some point so were started on supplements of both.  I'm not exactly sure that this is directly connected to your Devic's, BTW.

You can take B12 supplements by mouth (swallowed or under the tongue) these days so maybe that would be a better route to adjust and maintain a proper blood level.

Folic acid supplements are important for pregnant women and some people take it for heart health.  OTC supplements are dosed at 400mcg (0.4mg) as opposed to the 5 mg you were taking.  There is some thought that over-supplementing with folic acid can cause it to build up in the liver and counteract it's normal benefits.

I'm not sure you would be aware of any symptoms with either of these substances being high.  Maybe your doctor wants to give you a so-called 'drug holiday' and then continue to monitor blood levels with maintenance dosages.

I would be sure to ask your doctor these questions.  I know some doctors get very defensive about questions but we need to let them knew that we want to be involved in our own health care.  We have that right- and obligation to ourselves.

I am not sure about the high levels of Folic Acid supplements, but a high B12 will not cause any problems.  High b12 levels are not a problem.

If you are concerned, call your doctor's office and talk to the nurse. He/she would be the best person to talk this over with.

It sounds like the regular injections of B12 fand Folic Acid tablets for your Devics disease has leveled out in your system.  It just means that your body is assimilating the two vitamins and that they are at a high enough value that you don't need to continue to take them right now.

The doctor will probably continue to monitor your levels throughout your life becuase of the Devics Disease.  You may go on and off the injections and pills throughout your life.

I wouldn't worry about it being serious, they are just keeping the levels in the 'normal' zone.

Could you clarify your test results?  You state that you have a deficiency in B12 and folic acid but your blood results showed *high* levels of both.  That would not indicate a deficiency.  Could you clarify?

Thanks.
