brain mri

i want to understand what Foci of increased T2 and FLAIR signal are seen, one is located in the superior right centrum semiovale measuring 5  mm in size and another is located in the left parietal cortex measuring 7 mm in size.  Sagittal FLAIR imaging demonstrates additional lesions, also subcortical in distribution.  They may represent demyelinating disease.

Yikes! It's not like us to leave a post unanswered for 3 hours, let alone 3 days. I'm sorry I missed it first time around.

As TLC said, we're not docs and radiology reports are definitely written in doc speak. Radiologists are not diagnosticians. They are highly trained at seeing anomalies on various imaging studies.

In your case it's an MRI of your brain. "Foci of increased T2 and FLAIR signal" are lesions. They are not MS lesions automatically. There are many conditions that may lead to their appearance.

As I said, radiologists are not diagnosticians. They will provide a possible cause or causes of their findings. In your case "They may represent demyelinating disease." indicates this to be the most like case in the radiologists opinion.

I hope you have an appointment with a neurologist to discuss these findings. It is the neurologist that will make the diagnosis.

As TLC also said, MS is a tortoise, rather than a hare, so there is lots of time.

I’m sorry your post from three days ago has not drawn a response. However, your concerns are best addressed by medical professionals. I look at the report and think, sure, it could be MS … but it possibly could be other things I’m not familiar with. And I don’t know what symptoms you’re having that prompted the MRI.

The number and size of the lesions are not as important as the location, but I don’t know the consequences of your lesions’ locations.

MS is usually a slow diagnosis, but it’s also a slow-moving disease, so you’re OK if you don’t start treatment next week, or even next month. Ask questions here in the meantime, and folks will help you endure the process.
