bruises-- where did you come from??

I've always have been a clutz. I have been noticing alot of bruises on me lately? Is that due to my clutzy nature or does MS make you more accident prone? Is it just me or do any of you have this problem??       Karina

I talked to both my neuro and GP about my anemia, but they didn't sugest anything for it. I'm currently taking 1 a day womens vitamins and calcium too, is that enough?? I have bruises on arms and legs too. Am concerened about getting alot of bruises, when I start Copaxone. I am numb from waist down most of time. So I don't feel ones on legs, just see them.  Karina

As your balance and strenth declines you have a lot more "encountered" with hard objects than when you moved normally.  People who are in great pain often don't even feel little bumps.  They don't generate enough sensation to rise to the conscious level.  And then numbness is just that.  If your sensation perception is decreased.....self-explanatory.

Anemia is not really a cause of bleeding, but another disorder of low blood cells, the platelets, is.  Increased use of non-steroidal antiinflammatories (ibuprofen, naproxyn, celebrex aspirin) causes platelets not to work as well.  High doses of Vit E, Omega Oils and several other supplements will cause easy bruising.  If your bruises are in areas that couldn't have bumped something, are large and get larger, if your gums are bleeding easily or if there is blood on or in your stool, you need to have the bruising checked.

I too have this problem.  I have small bruises all over my thighs and hips, but have no idea where they come from.  I've been waking up with them, and by the next morning those are gone, but new ones are there.

I read somewhere that easily bruising had to do with anemia, but I don't know how reliable that source is.  I"ll ask my nutritionist if she has ever heard of that and I'll post you later tonight.  I have an appointment with her today.
