disappearing spots?

by kmil1999, Oct 08, 2009 09:56PM
Just got the report from the last MRI.  The brain MRI was clear.  The shortest dictation that I have ever seen.  (It didn't even mention the osteoma I have on my head)

So, I guess a 3T isn't any better for me.   The 2 lesions that were seen before, can they just go away?

Guess I get to go farther down into limboland.  I really don't care about that, I just want to feel better.  And no one nows how to do that.

Now what,
K

Hi.  When I read your post I let out a big sigh.  Small MS lesions can heal and seemingly disappear.  If there is another attack on the myelin sheath (if that is what you had) , it can target the same spots or another area.

Wikipedia explains that osteomas can spontaneously resolve.  Ask your neuro about this.  Strange that these three abnormalities have disappeared.  It's a good thing, but should be explained to you.

Has your neurologist spoken with you about this yet?  I hope he can offer you some insight and you can get some symptom relief.

Hang in there and take care.

I posted awhile ago about my "disappearing leasions" and got a lot of wonderful responses.  Try to search this site for DL and hopefully you can pull it up.

What Karen said about small lesions healing and appearing to "disappear" on subsequent MRIs is certainly a feature of MS lesions.  "MS lesions come and go, but mostly they come" this is a direct quote from our doc Quix.  My neuro explained to me that he expects to see lesions disappear because if other types of lesions such as ones attributed to small vessel ischemia don't disappear.

I had 2 lesions disappear in an MRI I had last December only to "reappear" in another MRI that was done in March.  So, they can come and go and that would be considered consistent with what happens in MS.

I hope this helps.  Try to find that post and read the Health Pages on lesions.  There is a wealth of info to further help answer your question.

I had a brain stem lesion disappear. My MS Specialist felt that meant I probably had MS because in MS lesions can disappear. It still took another 8 months for my diagnosis.

I am sorry you do not have an answer sooner than later.

Thanks all for your replies!  I'll look up the thread.

Karen99, my osteoma is still there.  It's about the size of a walnut, so I can feel it and you can visually see it.  I just found it odd that one MRI mentioned it and the other one didn't.

Again, thanks all.  I am pretty frustrated right now and all the positive comments help.

  Hi Kmil,

Sarahsmom question/discussion and Doc Quix's response inspired this health page:

http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Multiple%20Sclerosis/Lesions---Can-they-Disappear-A-Hypothetical-Case-Overview/show/566?cid=36

Sorry to hear you are not further along - but agree that your neuro should provide you w/some insight.

ttys,
