electric stimulation therapy

by willowwoman7, Jul 02, 2009 09:20PM
Hi all. I know it's been a while. It's been a heck of a 7 week period for me. First, I (somehow) was taking care of my father during the day for 14 days straight with no break, then later the next week he passed away, funeral, etc. grieving, etc. Then 2 weeks ago I totalled my van. Whiplas, bruised spleen, strained shoulder and a humongous bruise on my arm with a small cut that they say now infected my arm. So, that's why I haven't been on. I had physical therapy today and she did a shoulder massage and into the neck and I wound up in more pain than when we started. She put the electrical stimulation pads on my shoulder and around it and I got tingles (like my exacerbation) down my arm into my fingers. I called my neruo to find out if maybe using that might not be such a good idea. They did an mri of my shoulder and there were no tears but mild degeneration. My husband thinks if it still hurts this bad tomorrow I should maybe have them x-ray my arm to make sure they didn't miss a hairline fracture. My hand actually swelled as a result of the massage. So, anybody know anything about that electrical thing and MS?

sorry to hear your going through such a rough time.  I am not yet Dx so can't really help with answers.  I'm going through alot of tests and I do have Electrical shock sensations at times.  Not everyday...just once in awhile.

I would get you arm checked out if it still sore...

take care

Welcome back.

My condolences for your father - I'm so sorry.

Thank God that accident wasn't worse, and your still with us.  I do think hubby is onto something with the addt. look at the arm. X-rays can miss fractures.  With the swelling due to the massage, maybe you had some trama to the tissues.  I'm sure you got pretty banged up in places the Drs didn't realize.

I've had the those pads on my shoulders too when I had pt at chiropractic.  I never could have them turned up very hi, or it would jerk the muscles too much and really tweek me out.  I don't have any advice with it, except maybe it's turned up to high.  I could only handle the slow buzz.

Tell them straight away it's got you uncomfortable or hurts. They will take it easier on you.. And, if they are using heat on your shoulders and neck during pt too, you can switch to ice.  That's what I did. It really helped.

Hope you begin to heal well,
shell
