face going numb again

face going numb again

Ok, so this is nothing to new. I have this happen periodically so I am use to it. The only thing is that he always tells me to call when it happens and he prescribes me oral steriods and it tends to help.

I have been contemplating calling  but as of yet I haven't. I was wanting to wait and see if it goes away, not that I want to cause more problems for myself, but would it really hurt to wait and see what happens or am I just being plain stupid?

I just want to wait to see if it resolves on its own. It isn't painful, well obviously since it is going numb. I will call if it gets worse and worse. It is just that medicine after medicine is driving me nuts.

So do you all think I making a mistake by not calling?

Update,

I went ahead and called the doc, my hand started going numb too. So I will be picking up the steriods from the pharmacy tomorrow. I tried to hold out but just couldn't do it anymore.

I answered my own question, YESSSSS I am making a big mistake by calling and yes I am plain stupid for waiting, but live and learn I always say. lol

Paula,

You are NOT stupid! Well, if you are then so am I .:-) I have tried waiting out not calling due to the redundant numbness/pain - call-take a pill-rinse- and repeat.

You learned how your body reacts and now you have learned a lesson on what to expect.

I hope you feel better soon and the numbness improves quickly.

Hey, I hardly ever call about a flare.  Almost always it's a sensory problem, which is just annoying.  When it interferes with my life, I judge it's time to take steroids.  But I haven't had anything that bad in a while.

But thinking back on it, I could have used some steroids for the weak legs I had a month ago.  When it's hard to stand up, I regard that as interfering with my life!

Hi Paula,

Don't you hate that kind of numbness on your face?  A numb chin was one of my first symptoms.

I'm glad you called your doc and hope you feel better soon!

Hugs

Thanks everyone,

I really don't like taking medicine after medicine so I thought I would try to wait it out but when my hand started going numb I figured it was time to call.

The numb spots are back on my leg again, face is getting better. It always starts at my ear and moves into my face. My ear is still numb and now hand is not numb it is just tingly.

Red,
My first symptom was vertigo, then numbness in my leg then it all went downhill from there, and YES I hate this kind of numbness. I am waiting for one day to see the entire side of my face go numb, then maybe my doc will give me the DMD's and stop waiting for more fricken lesion's.

Thanks again,

Paula

Jemm,

A stroke will affect your entire side, mine is just intermittant, slurred speech will also come with a stroke as well as mental abilities. First time it happened I went to the hospital and was sent home, told to call my neuro.

I hope you are well and if it gets worse and you are scared please do call your doc and talk to him.

Take care,
Paula

Jemm,

While I'm not positive I believe that with a stroke it effect the entire side of the body, or at least a larger portion or effects more functions. E.G slurred words and numb face.

I have had my entire left side of my face go numb and it is the weirdest feeling ( sounds funny talking about feeling and numbness in same breath).  At other times it is the top ( forehead) that goes numb, like right now. But I sure prefer the numbness to the TN any day. :)

Be calm, is it your entire side of your body or is it just your face? Also I believe your blood pressure will be very high if you are having a stroke...not positive on this though. Do some slow breathing and relax. Let us know what happens.

Be well,
Paula

Jemm,

Just take a deep breath and curse the MS. When your daughter gets there just have her keep an eye on the way you are talking and your mental abitlities. She will know if you are talking weird or your mental abitlities have slowed.

Getting stress can only make things worse, I am glad she is coming over to help you.

Take care,
Paula

OK here I am ......my brother in law rushed over on my sisters orders and then my daughter got there. They managed to calm me down because I really was freaking out.  Matthew (my B-in-L) understand the fear completely because he has a bad heart condition and gets terrified at the slightest twinge.

The numb thing sort of spread across my face, then it started moving. It also appeared on the top of my left hand. Then it started subsiding on my face after about two hours, and sort of moved toward the middle of my face intil it stopped on my lips. It has now gone. But I have a headache......

I recall Quix saying something along the lines of something like that that only lasts an hour or two isn't MS? Or was that something else??????

Maybe it is the whacked out migraines they also thinkk I get.......either way it was very unpleasant.........

If anyone knows about the length of time such things can occur for to be an MS symptoms please let me know??

Cheers...

Jemm, with ice pack on head.

Well, the headache went and now the numb face thingo is happening again, not as bad as this morning (mind you I'm not freaking out this time).

So my question is, is it likely to be an MS type parethesia if it comes for a few hours, lessens to almost completely gone, then returns again .......6 hours later? or something else?

So confusing, this whole thing.....

Well I am glad they came to your resue and I am glad your numbness started going away.

The one thing I can tell you is that with a relapse the symptoms have to last for at least 24 hours. I am not sure if they can come and go during that period I am pretty new to all of this and I am learning right along with everyone else here on the forum.

Maybe someone else will chime in and give the answer to whether in can be parethesia, and if parasthesia can come and go or if a relapse can come and go.

But I am so happy that you are feeling better about it.

Take care and relax so that you don't get worse,

Paula

Jemm,

So sorry you are having problems! My advice is to see a doc if this the first time this has happened  to you. It is more than likely a paresthesia. Paresthesias can come and go over a 24 hour period but must be the same symptoms for the 24 hours, I think that is what Quix said. I'll check the health pages and see.

Are you diagnosed with MS? Sorry , bad memory and too many new faces.

Paula gave you very good advice about relaxing and indications on when to see emergency care.  I'm glad some one is there with to watch for any worsening or change in symptoms.

Jemm,
Here is the link from the health pages about paresthesias:

http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Multiple-Sclerosis/Paresthesias---Things-That-Go-BUZZ-in-the-Night/show/378?cid=36

From the Health Page: "A paresthesia may be constant or it may be intermittent.  It can also be triggered when something does stimulate the area, as when simple soft touch is felt as unbareably painful.  This is a condition of paresthesia known as allodynia."

I hope this helps clarify things.  I hope you feel better soon!

hey jemm, i'll just add my two cents here.

my face has been intermittantly numb/tingly at times...often along the jaw line...never lasting too long.  just telling you in hopes of reassuring you this can be "normal."

hope you are doing alright jemm...it is terrible the worry that comes along with this!!!
