flare ups

I am wondering how far apart flair ups can be. Is it possible that they could be 16 months apart and have different parts of the body effected? Some similar symptoms and some different ones?

Yup! You nailed it!

They absolutely be that far apart, can be a worsening of the same symptoms are all together new ones.

Hi there, I'm Shelly, I was dx'd w/MS last year.  What's going on? I don't think we've chatted, but then again, I'm forgetful.

How are you feeling now? Share a little if you feel comfortable.

Welcome to our family here, we're quite the bunch!

Hi, Mojoe. I welcome you too, and will be interested in hearing more about you.

Shelly is sure right. There's no predicting when an MS flare will strike, in what part of the body, or how long it will last. Even MRIs cannot pin this one down. To be designated a flare, the attack has to last at least 24 hours, and has to occur at least a month after the last one, but aside from that, all bets are off.

Some members here have gone up to 10 years between attacks. That does not mean their MS is 'benign' or their symptoms lighter. MS can be fierce no matter what. Please take a look at our Health Pages by clicking there at the upper right of the screen. I think a lot of your questions will be answered.

Welcome - That's where I'm at - piecing things together.  Of course I've been told not to look 'out there' and read about stuff, but I'm a (systems) analyst and it is just my nature to dig.  I am slowing coming to realize that my symptoms first showed 12 years ago this summer - I'm not diagnosed but that is where my timeline starts - and I can't say when the next time was, but I would say probably a good year later.  Then on and off until things started coming together this Spring, enough for one doctor to order the nerve conduction test which showed the problems that the doc thought were carpal tunnel and tendonitis were really something in my neck....two MRIs later I'm still not sure what's going on - tomorrow is my brain MRI and hopefully that will be informative.
Best wishes to you in your search....
