headaches

Seems like all I have been doing lately is posting questions about my problems.  I have been having terrible headaches lately.  I checked with the doctor who did my LP--my headaches are not from that procedure.  It just feels like my head is being squeezed.  Most of the pain is top front--forehead and around my eyes---like sinuses.  The pain is terrible in the mornings and gets better as the day goes on, but never completely leaves.  It is better when I am moving around and doing something.  Using the computer makes it worse.  I only made it through 1/2 a day at work because the computer made it so bad. I am so tired of taking medicine and still having the pain.  It is the weekend so I can't get in to my doctor---plus, I don't have the sick leave to take off work.  Any help on headaches???

One thing to consider with new onset daily headaches is the overuse of meds to relieve the pain.  This is the most common cause of this kind of headache.  When you start taking multiple doses of ergotamines (for migraine) acetaminophen or ibuprofen or naprosyn for a headache, you can begin getting a rebound headache as soon as the med wears off.  the only thing that will help is more med, but it helps less and less.  So you get into a vicious cycle.

The only treatment is to STOP the medication and see if the headaches subside.

Here is one set of diagnostic criteria for MOH

Diagnostic criteria:

1) Headache present on >15 days/month fulfilling criteria 3 and 4 Characteristics depend on drug

2) Regular overuse for > 3 months of a medication Amount depends on drug
Ergotamine, triptans, opioids, and combination analgesics 10 days/month
    Simple analgesics 15 days/month

3) Headache has developed or markedly worsened during medication overuse

4) Headache resolves or reverts to its previous pattern within 2 months after discontinuation of overused medication

BUT, any new headache should be evaluated by a doctor.  There are several types of daily headache that include chronic tension headache, chronic or transformed migraine, hemicrania continua, and medication overuse headache (MOH).  So, it is impossible to jump to the diagnosis here.

Just a thought.

I have been having pain like you describe alot recently too.
I did go to the eye Dr and he changed my prescription and put a prism in my lenses to help with eye fatigue.
I also noticed that when I rub the muscles above my temples it greatly relieves my pain.

I am doing better, they are not as strong or as frequent now.

From the posts here,  I think the headache I get is a combination of a few problems.
I do hope you find answers soon.

Hi Mommie,
My new response to everyone with headaches these days is "have you had your eyes checked?"  I was having terrible headache pain, and pressure behind my eye that made me think I had ON.  Turned out to be dry eye.  Restasis and other drops are makning a difference and cut the pain considerably.

Because you mention around the sinuses  and working on the computer brings it on I would think a good eye checkup is in order if you haven't had one recently.  Computer work is interesting - the eye problem with the computer stuff is we don't blink much while we are staring at the screen.  Blinking serves a purpose to help keep the eye lubricated and clean.

Also, how is your blood sugar?  When mine goes up a bit, I feel it through headache pain.

Headache pain is miserable - I hope you find an answer for relief sooner rather than later.

Wishing you well,
Lulu

This sounds like the large muscles under the scalp are going into spasms, these are very strong muscles and are connected to some of the facial nerves..
But I could be wrong, this is what I was told when I suffered the headaches and facial pains. I would talk to your doctor to be on the safe side. {{{{~!~}}} DJ

Hi there,

Sorry you are battling these headaches. I keep moving when it makes mine back off, and I take some anti-inflammatories.  I've got a headache like that now, and I'm going to go drink some coffee and get moving see if it makes a difference.....

Maybe they'll leave us both alone in a little while - good riddens, I say
