how do the lesions get there?

how do the lesions get there?

i have trying to figure out what casue the lesions that shows up on and mri. i cant really find anything online so i was hopeing someone could help me on here. Does anyone know bc i would really really like to know.

Hi Kay,

Lesions on our brain are different than you might think.  Lesions as it relates to MS are places where the protective myelin sheath has been eroded.  These spots are what shows up on the MRI as looking different.

The lesions from MS can and often do heal - our bodies are constantly working to make repairs - think about if you scrape your skin and a scab forms.  Or if you break a bone and the bones fuse back together.  

The same happens with our brain where the  myelin has been eroded.  Unfortunately the repaired pathways are never as solid as the original.  With MS it appears this action to remyelinate these pathways is slowed or even possibly stopped.
