Yes my wife was admitted to the hosp 3 days ago with double vision After 3 mri the er dt seemed to think it was ms because of the numerous liasions that appeaerdvThe nurosurgeon said he doesn't have enough info to make a diagnosis of ms Though to me there giving her continuos iv's of steriods and pain meds He said it takes at least a month to diagnos ms. They have ruled out infections of any kind and seems everything else. There giving her the treatment for ms she has the symptoms of ms The mris I uess I'm asking are they just not telling us for legal reasons in case it is something else I guess I'm asking is it common for them to know its ms but hold off on the diagnosis As can be expexted my wife and I are frightend but I think we would rather just know so we can start to deal with it. And what can we expect from here shes afraid her careers over well lose the house and  won't be able to deal with it any info would be appreciated thank you

I hope your wife gets feeling better soon.  MS is a diagnosis of exclusion.  That means that there are several other illnesses/diseases (such as lupus, for example) that can mimic MS.  These diseases can cause abnormal MRI results, also.  So, the doctors appear to be addressing her needs as best as possible.  They are possibly waiting for other results and also to see if her symptoms improve.  Some of the tests of the spinal fluid to rule out MS can take a month to perform.  The symptoms of different diseases can also respond in a different timetable than that of MS.  The doctors probably just want to make sure as to what her problem is so they can give the correct diagnosis to you as best as possible.  That way they also can offer her the best treatment options.

I have had MS for at least seven years now before I was diagnosed just recently.  My collegue also has had MS and has continued to work for years.  Everybody's prognosis is not the same.  It varies with the type of MS and the individual.  So, do not panic!  Just try to enjoy yourselves as best as possible.  Continue to love and support and be understanding of each other and you will get through this.  This is a great forum for support.  Let us know how the two of you are doing, okay?

I totally agree with Moki.  They are definetely trying to rule everything else out before making a for sure diagnosis.  Please be strong for her.  She needs you more now than ever.  I commend you for talking to us on her behalf.  That already shows that your going to be a wonderful supporter for her.  Keep up the good work.

Ya'll hang in there.  Ms is not a death sentence.  Remeber if she is diagnosed with MS that "she has MS, MS doesn't have her".

I'll be praying,
Carol

I'm sorry to hear that your wife is not well. I am not diagnosed as of yet, but from what I understand, the neuro may be wanting to rule out other things first. It is good that they have her on treatment already though as if it is MS it may slow her symptoms down. If it is MS she should get remissions and depending on her symptoms may still be able to continue to work. Has she had any other symptoms other than the double vision?

I understand her panic but she will just cause herself more stress. She needs to wait to see what they say about a diagnosis and what treatments she may get to help. I know some people who have MS and are still working as their symptoms have not progressed far. I hope this will be the same for her.

I know that others with more experience in this will respond and hope they can give you more ideas.

My thoughts are with you and your wife
Moki
