Well, at least now I have some input on it. I suppose i will fill the prescription now. I wanted to get opinions on it first, ya never know!!! thanks everyone
When I was prescribed zanaflex, my pain specialist thought that my pain/spasms were caused by orthopedic issues. He said that it was a more powerful muscle relaxant than ones that other doctor's had prescribed for me in the past. My primary care doctor was happy that it worked for me, and continued to prescribe it after my pain specialist retired.
I had a fairly uncommon reaction, as often happens with me. When I'd close my eyes , sometimes I'd see a kalaidescope pattern, moving rotating pictures, flowers, animals, trees, shapes, in color. Open eyes, vision was clear. This developed after I'd been taking the medication for a couple years, and my doctor said that I had to stop taking it.
Everyone reacts differently to medications, and as long as you have a good doctor prescribing it and keeping track of how it effects you, then it shouldn't be a problem for you.
I did take it at night, with occasionally a smaller dose during the day when the pain would interfere with life, which would help without making me too sleepy.
I take zanaflex at night for muscle spasms in my legs/calves for about 2 years. It is WONDERFUL for me. I take it at night, cause it knocks me out.
Good luck,
Michelle
thank you both!! I hear this can make a person tired and to take at night. I was hoping this could work. What kind of reaction did you get? Is this medication prescribed mostly in people with ms or is it a drug for pain in general?
Hi there,
I was on zanaflex several years ago, prescribed by my pain specialist before I was diagnosed. It was really helpful with the cramping/muscle spasms that made it hard to sleep, difficult to ride in a car, sit for any length of time.
I took it for a couple years, but developed an adverse reaction to it, darn it. My PCP put my on diazepam (pain specialist retired), helpful, but not as helpful as zanaflex.
Sorry I am not on it, but thought I would bump this to the top to see if others may chime in.
