Yes, itch is definitely a form of paresthesia that can be experienced in MS.  It also can appear in paroxysms. Itch can be more problematic than pain, actually.  They are coping techniques for dealing with chronic pain, but they have not been able to find a way to help people with chronic itching.  It is almost impossible to ignore or learn to live with.

Hence, it is a better torture technique than pain.  Weird factoid, no?

I am not dx, but I have the itching.  Mine is my eyes, my ears, hands and most aggravating is my feet & legs.

Nothing helps either, I have tried everything.  I have had this symptom for almost two years and it really will drive you nuts!

Mine did lessen up for a couple of months, but started up again this week.  I have been over tired and got a little too warm a couple of times lately so I was wondering if that might be why it has worsened again.  Who knows!?!

Good luck with yours, I hope it goes aways soon for you.

I have intense itching just above my left knee in the early evenings.  I used to get it on my left hip but it has moved. I have drawn blood on my knee many times by scratching it so hard.  Its all on my weak side.....marcie

LOL, not offended in the least!  I found out all my sister in laws and nieces all use smitty something as their e mail address.  I have four brothers, no sisters so Smitty just kind of stuck growing up.   Thanks for the smile!  Have a happy and blessed Easter Deb.  Stay in touch.

I found for that intense-drive you out of your mind itching-an ice pack works wonderfully! It's the only thing that works, and I have fallen asleep many nights with one propped on my arm. Hope this works for you.

Hi all:

You can all count me in on the intense icthing too.
It is intermittent.  lasting for a few days to a week
at a time.
lol the first time I got it  was on my head all over
and down inside my ear. I thought I was going to
loose my mind.  I did not know about the MS at
the time, my doctor gave me some cream to put
on the itchy areas. lol yea right like I was going
to rub this stuff inside my ear and all over my head.

Im sure with my long hair that would have been a real
fashion statement. .lol

next time i will break out the benadryl.                   Gollie

I am currently in limbo, but the freakin' itching over the last two years, on and off, has been ungodly!  It happened once about 6 years ago, too.  Same place, elbow pit on my right arm and about three inches above and below that.  Two years ago I got that itch and it lasted, man, 2 or 3 months, I think.  Since then it will come back and stay for a day or a week, but it shows up in other areas now, too.  It wakes me up!

Two things:

Thing One - Scratching that itch is the most amazing darn-near-nirvana feeling I think I've ever known.  But scratcher beware.  Once you start, you can't stop even when it bleeds and your skin becomes like parchment.

Thing Two - Nothing touches it.  Not Atarax.  Not Benedryl.  Not ice or slapping.  Not lotions with Benedryl or Sarna.  Nothing.  The drugs knock me out, but I keep itching even in my sleep!

Yes i get itching too and at one time it drove me nuts on my legs every single night I scratched non stop. Now it seems less intense and has not lasted as long and is occurring in different areas like arms, groin and hands. Some of it seems to be related to the nerve pain which itches and burns at the top of my thighs.

I have no solutions to deal with it and can relate to the feelings Nomy wrote about the scratching. *L*
