liver enzymes DOWN

by doublevision1, Apr 10, 2008 04:50PM
Hi All, an update:  I had my bloodwork done on Tuesday and the results came back today.  MS clinic nurse just called to tell me that my liver enzymes came down a LOT since the last test.  AST is within normal range and ALT is just above normal.  She will consult with my neuro on the results and for now says to stay at 22mcg Rebif.

I asked what might account for such high levels initially, then for it to drop so fast.  She said could be Tylenol, or alchohol use (I used neither during that period).  In fact I had my first glass of wine in over a month AFTER I had my initial bloodwork done.  When I heard about my elevated enzymes, I was worried that the wine I recently had would make my levels even higher on the second test; but thankfully that is not the case.

It's possible the initial result (and/or the one I got today) is due to lab error.  I will do bi-weekly blood work for a while till it is clear what is going on.

So I'm being cautiously optimistic that things look a lot better and perhaps I will be able to tolerate this med after all.  I really hope so!

Thanks again for your notes on Monday.

Just a quickie, but a little viral infection can also raise liver enzymes.  Also use of NSAIDS (Alleve, ibuprofen, Celebrix) can do it also.

Interesting.  I guess one could have a little viral infection and not even be aware of it.

I do take a small amount of ibuprofen; 2 reg strenth Advil 3xper week with my injection.  I told the nurse that and she did not comment.  She just seemed focused on avoiding Tylenol.  I will definitely keep an eye on that.

Thanks for the info, Quix.

Woo Hoo! This is good news.  I'm glad they came down, and hope they stay normal so you can continue treatment!
