I have hearing loss on one side, which my old Neuro said was a symptom of MS. I have to ask the question that Andrea asked...is this the cause of your vertigo? I would really be interested to know, so I could understand more. You can teach me...
YOU ARE NOT ALONE WITH THE HEARING LOSS.
EVEN THOUGH THEY CLAIM IT AS A RARE SYMPTOM,I LEARN THAT THERES MANY MSERS WITH HEARING LOSS.
I HAVE MILD TO MODERATE IN THE RIGHT EAR AND MODERATE TO SEVERE IN LEFT AND THE NEURO ENT HAS CONTRIBUTED IT TO LESIONS NEAR THE BRAIN STEM AND STATED THAT IT COULD BE SOME OF THE CAUSE OF VERTIGO AND A REASON TO WHY MY BALANCE IS WOBBLY.
THE NEURO ENT STATED THAT OUR BODY LEARNS TO COMPENSATE AND WE USE OUR OTHER SENSES TO MAINTAIN.
I AM ACTUALLY SCHEDULED TO GET HEARING AIDES IN FEBUARY SOMETIME.ITS TIME WHEN I HAVE REALIZED THAT I HAVE LEARNED TO READ LIPS.PLUS I DON'T LIKE TO BE DISORIENTED WHEN IN GROUP SETTINGS.
The vertigo and the hearing loss are separate parts of the same problem. The MS causes a lesion on the 8th Cranial nerve and, BAM! some of the hearing goes. But, hearing loss, doesn't itself cause vertigo, unless it is sudden and profound.
The vertigo in MS is also usually a lesion on the brainstem, and suddenly we can't integrate all the information we get about our position in space, visual, Proprioception (the info from our limbs that tells us what position our limbs are in) our gravity sensors, a little from hearing etc. Without the ability to put all the info together instantaneously we get dizzy, becasue we don't know where we are with relation to the world.
If you add in lack of info (from numbness) about how the ground feels beneath our feet (is it level? is it sloped? is it uneven? is it slippery) we're up S**t Creek.
When they say that loss of hearing is rare - well, in my reading it is less common than some of the other sensory problems, but it is well described.
Thanx Qux I could't have xplained it any better..lol
But ths audio was not sure if i have vertigo she said she had to put some numbers together???? then proceeded to tell me about my hearing loss. Funny my husband has been saying for months that i talk real loud and when i talk to my step dad who is hard of hearing tells me not to talk so loud .... lol that should have been an indication that i was possibly deaf.
I know my hearing used to be excellent while i was in the air force my job required that.
Thanks again ladies ..... stay tuned....

I owe you a private message. Sorry, but my 7 yr old has strep, and was absolutely miserable this weekend! We had lots of "mommy's lap time" yesterday.
I wear hearing aids due to sensorineural hearing loss and have vertigo/dizziness issues, too. As you may know, I do not have MS, so I don't know what it has to do with anything (although I've never really been tested fully, I don't think). Even with my aids, I have problems with sound discrimination, and continue to read lips. The hearing aids have made my life a lot better, though. I'm SO happy to have them.
Wish it meant something to you. I don't know how it's all related, the vertigo/dizziness/hearing loss. Quix explains it all beautifully. Thought I'd add my two cents. I'm eager to "hear" what your ENT says....
Yo home girl!
I thought you had MS.
Im anxious to hear the results as well. I am puzzled now as to why he did the spinal mri w/out contrast. After reading Quix's explanation of lesions on spine are hard to see even w/dye.
Im also curious about the sleep study which shows i never complete REM sleep which is an important part of the sleep patterns.
Im sorry to hear your baby is so sick and i hope he gets better real soon.
do me a favor and the next time you go outside give a big wave to my home, ok??

I had my sleep study done and the tech said no apnea however my REM was constantly interrupted???
I called the neuro due to all my test are complete i need an appt asap and not at the end of Feb!
ps for our new members im waiting on dx due to numerous lesions in the subcortal and deep white matter....
Hope everyone is having a great day!
I'm glad you have no apnea (I do, which is weird, because I'm not TOO overweight!). But they do need to find out why your REM sleep is interrupted for sure. Give 'em heck and let us know what happens.
Yes i informed you all of the results at the top of this post.... HELLO???? remember im deaf.... next dumb and who knows ...lol
so should i be concerned about my REM??

IT WOULD BE OF INTEREST IF IT DOES CAUSE VERTIGO.

Do you have an appointment with an audiologist?
