Hi James,
I had a lumbar puncture about 5 or 6 wks ago. I was a nervous wreck beforehand.
It turned out to be pretty much pain free. (I was SO RELIEVED AND EXTATIC) My neuro did it in his office. I drank lots of fluids beforehand, and lots of caffeine afterwards, and laid flat for 4-6 hrs (per the neuro's suggestions).
I haven't heard of getting a MS attack afterwards, but I guess that it might be possible if you're really stressing out about getting one.
Good luck!

My LP was ok, if I felt any pain the Dx stopped & numbed me up more, It seemed forever but from the time I was on the table for fluoroscopy was less than 20 minutes.
And looking at the report they used 1.6 minutes of fluoroscopy time.

The Dr came in and talked to me & my wife prior to  LP explained it all asked id we had any questions,  & told us  how long before the results would be  known,  after they collected the fluid , I think four or six tubes they told us right away that the fluid was clear & that's a good sign, but lab must do there test.

I was told to drink alot that day, and the next day, to  take EZ for a few days &  I laid flat for maybe hour plus  after & they had me drink before I left.
Dr also said  that your spinal fluid is replaced each day.  Always drink water..

Felt no real pain afterwards..
Hope helps some.

John..

I had my LP done under fluoroscopy and I was given lidocaine to numb the skin area and after that, didn't feel a thing. I think the worst part is the unknown. I had myself scared to death over nothing.

Let us know if we can help answer any more questions.

Hi there,

I missed  your post yesterday, but will gladly respond to this one.
There is some pressure involved in a LP. Most times you will hear people talk about pain in the head afterward and that is related to a leak. Not all people get this and there are things you can do to minimize the chance of this happening.

Are you talking about an attack happening w/in a couple hours in relation to a LP? If so, my guess is likely not.

What's going on?
Oh, belated welcome to the forum,
