It could also be an issue with:
Cranial Nerve 7 (CN7) - Sensation of taste in anterior two-thirds of the tongue
Cranial Nerve 9 (CN9) - Sensation of taste in posterior one-third of the tongue
or since 70% of taste is smell,
Cranial Nerve 1 (CN1) - Sensation of smell.

CN1 is a Cerebral Cranial Nerve and CN7 & 9 attach at the brainstem.

Stroke, CVA, mass effect, and MS lesions can all cause loss of taste/smell.

There are many things that could cause problems with taste.  If this has just happened you should go to the emergency room to rule out a stroke or other vascular event.

Let us know what happens.
