I'm really hoping your MRI went well today.....I'm not sure what the time difference is between here (Canada) and the UK, but please let us know how it went....

You're in my thoughts and prayers...

I have only had two and was nervous for both. The first time i didn't think i would be nervous but when i was in there it took all my efforts not to panic and scream "get me out of here!"

I'm a professional musician so am used to dealing with nerves when performing and although this was completely different i tried breathing techniques.I really concentrate on keeping my breathing slow and steady while counting at the same time.In through the nose out through the mouth. It also serves as a distraction but its hard work.

The secound scan went much better for me as i had a look through the machine and saw the hole at the other end and told myself there was no way of getting stuck in there so i should try and relax.

Keep your eyes closed too if possible!

Suzie.

I just had cervical and thoracic MRI's, with and without contrast on Saturday. I swear that MRI tube is getting smaller all the time. This time they gave me earplugs. They blocked my head so it wouldn't move, and away (in) I went. They asked what type of music I  liked, I said Country Western, then asked old or new! Old.. They played the music the entire time. By listening to the music, and thinking back to when it was "new" the time passed fairly quickly. I was in there for an hour and a half. I was sure stiff from not moving all that time. The tech even had to help me sit up. I didn't have any medication, but if your dr has given you some, I would take it. Of course you might need someone to drive home then. You don't want an "under the influence" ticket, LOL. Good luck, you can do this. Just remember you are going through this in search of answers.  And the best way of finding those answers is going through this test, that in the scheme of things lasts a short period of time. Good luck, please let us know how you do! Hugs & prayers, Maggie

I have had six MRI's over the past two years! I have a very bad panic disorder, so yes I do still feel like I am going to freak out in there. The worst one was when they did the brainstem also. They put this neck collor shield looking thing over my face and head. Luckily I am already taking Xanax so this helps a lot! Also the hospital I have my MRI's at have headphones to put on your ears and they turn it on the radio. This helps to distract from the noise. I keep my eyes shut almost the whole time I am in there! The part that bothers me is when they inject the contrast into my arm that is  hanging out of the machine. I can't see what they are doing and it freaks me out a little. But like I said the best way I have found to relax is to shut my eyes and just listen to the music and let it take me somewhere nice in my memory! The nerve meds should help you too! Just close your eyes and pretend you are somewhere else! It works for me!

Good luck
