nero exam???

nero exam???

Goodmorning; I had my visit with the nero and has orderd a MRI. He did a phys. on me, one test was of me laying on the table and I was to relax while he took and lifted my  leg by my knee and my foot (heel) was suppose to move along with the lifting motion on top of the table. Well that was something that I could not do, my legs (one done at a time) would not hang down for my foot to touch the table. He kept trying and trying and no go.He really never said alot but only said I needed to relax I was as relaxed as I could be....he gave up on that test no remark. What does it mean if anything? Thanks so much.   P.S. he would manuly push my foot down to touch the table while he still had my leg bent at the knee

Hi CM,
I'm glad you got to see the neuro.  I just saw mine on Monday and we talked a bit about neuro exams. He had a medical student observing, so we talked about my reactions to the tests.

I laughingly told him  and the student I knew it did no good to study for the test because he would know if I was trying to cheat!  He said he continues to be amazed at the people who come to neuros looking for something and trying to fake a neuro exam to get results.

Some of those tests really require you to relax the muscles so they can test for the appropriate reaction.   It sounds to me as if he was unable to complete the exam for this reason.  I found it helps to close my eyes and block out all stimuli and focus on relaxing so the neuro can do his job.

Relaxing isn't as easy as it sounds!!!

If you want to learn more about these tests, check out the video clips on the Temple University neuro site ..........

the links are on the far right side where it says Neurological Exam Videos

my best,
Lulu

Hi.. I'm not sure if I can answer you question, but wanted you to know that the neuro exams are difficult to tell if you have a normal result or not.. the Neuro can tell, and sometimes don't like to tell us??

hang in there..
