provigil rx

Hi all.

Does anyone here have experience with ordering from canadian pharmacies?

I have a prescription for provigal from my neurologist but the cost is too much for me.

How do the canadian pharmacies work?

Skye

DV - I finally have seen the price billed to my insurance company for my copaxone, because there was a change in the specialty pharmacy.

My co-pay is $50 and my insurance was billed $3,105.  Quite a difference from the Canadian price.

The Ampyra is over $1,000/month.  The verdict is still out whether it is worth it or not.

Thanks, Helen, for bringing up this topic, again.  The differences floor me, and I understand that ins and outs of patent protection/drug development/regulatory charges, etc but still have trouble understanding why we pay so much more here in the US than anywhere else in the world.

My Copaxone is about $1325 per month.
I think my Neurontin is about $200/month for 720x300mg pills.
Elavil - no clue and I'm too lazy to go look, but I will later.
Both covered 100% by my provincial and employer insurance plans.
How do those prices compare to elsewhere in Canada (I'm in northern Alberta), in the US, UK, NZ, Aus, etc?

I've ordered through Canadian pharmacies via the internet in the past and had no problems.  Right now my co-pay through insurance is about the same as what I would pay full price from Canada so it doesn't make sense to purchase outside the US.  If that changes I would order Canadian drugs again.

I DID have trouble with a US company calling me and offering controlled substance drugs.  I reported them to the state attorney general but they had changed their business name by the time anyone caught up with them.

I'm so glad to read these other answers and have a chance to think this through some more - Q is right in being sure you verify who you are dealing with.

Medicine shoppe is a chain here in the US too - the provigil cost Helen gave sounds incredibly less than what is charged here.  Do us a favor and if you proceed with this, please let us know how it goes and what you have to do.  There are several people here without insurance who might benefit from your experiences.

thanks, L

Thank you so much Mike, Helen and Quix for quick replies and excellent information.

Canada sounds soooo good right now. If only I lived a bit closer. I'll figure things out though.

LuLu.... I really appreciate your words of caution. I am going to proceed carefully.

I actually believe it IS quite possible to order online and from Canada online safely.  I'm glad Helen posted.  You need to check that the company is accredited with the Canadian agency that deals with pharmacies.  There is an independent number you can call and check.

Many US docs will give you a hard copy prescription (to send/fax to Canada), but don't want to know waht you want it for.  The US government's stand is that it is illegal to obtain drugs this way, but most of the people and most of the medical profession that I have met do not accept this.  The government is hardly going to come after people who are obtaining regular meds this way.  Large quantities of Scheduled drugs might be a different story.

I am in the Medicare donut hole and I would not (will not) pause for a moment to purchase my Provigil or any other of my meds from Canada if I need to.

I'm Canadian as well, and just on spec I phoned an independent pharmacy Still accredited and with a storefront, just not part of a major chain. She said they will fill and ship meds to the US as long as there is a valid prescription associated with the order and the person had to fill out some kind of form to verify their identity. I didn't ask anything about fees, but I am on modafinil (provigil) and just for reference, my last prescription of 100 tabs was $72.06 with a $10.60 dispensing fee. Here is their link

Hi Skye,

I am Canadian so this is not an issue for me, but I think it's a good question.

My wifes cousin from Oregon comes to Canada, and he and his wife always make sure to fill their prescriptions while they're here. They say it saves quite a bit of money.

The cost of generic drugs will drop even lower in Canada because the govt has ruled pharma co's can no longer offer kick-backs to pharmacies.....although I don't know how this works and how it will lower prices, but that's what the news said a few days ago.

Lulu's right, it's got to be dangerous to order drugs through the internet.

I could give you the 1-888 number of my pharmacist, but I don't know if they're allowed to ship to the US. Let me know and you could give it a try.

Good luck. The high cost of drugs should not be an issue, but unfortunatly it is for far too many of us. I'm fully insured, but I know if I wasn't I wouldn't be able to afford the drugs I need to try and control this disease and its symptoms.

Take care

Mike

oops - I am always easy, I meant IT probably won't be easy.  LOL

Oh, and did I say don't order anything via the web?

Skye, I have no experience with this but

please, please please be very careful - I would not trust ordering any pharmaceutical via the web.  There is absolutely no guarantee that this is a legit company or that the drugs are real.

There was another report on this last week on the Today show - counterfeits in everything are rampant, but especially pharmaceuticals.  Often the tests show that not only are they not the correct drugs, they can be toxic.

As for Canada, I think the method is to take your rx across the border and get it filled.  If you google that question you might find answers.

Good luck with finding a safe and affordable source.  I probably won't be easy.

be well, Lulu
