I’ve had different types of things that so far several neurologists are calling possible seizures, but they haven’t been diagnosed through an EEG yet. So, do not go off of my experiences….. okay? :) To answer your question, I’ve only blacked out a few times, and I don’t think it was every connected to my seizures… but that’s because of the types I’m having. Some types of seizures do cause blackouts.
For over a month in the summer I would wake up and have chewed up the inside of my mouth through the night without me knowing It (I would have bloody bite marks on the inside of my cheeks and lips), and would have a pretty bad migraine when I woke up also (I never woke up with migraines before, I always get them in the afternoon, so this was strange).
In august I had a pretty long seizure that was seen by my family. I basically felt as though something terrible was about to happen for about a few seconds, and then I was unable to speak for around 30 minutes. I never lost total consciousness (I was sitting upright) Another 30 minutes until I was able to speak clearly enough to be understood and say sentences. During this time I did experience asymmetrical jerking of my arms and legs, and I had really bad clenching of teeth and experienced a crushing migraine. This migraine intensified through-out the night and in the morning it was also very bad.
I’ve had several shorter ones similar to this since then.
I’ve also had a few where, all of a sudden I’ve missed a minute or two in time, and don’t remember what just happened. Usually, my mom tells me that I was waving my arm around in a circle or something and I had stopped talking and was staring, and I know that I wasn’t “present” for a little bit. These frighten me slightly, because they’ve happened when I was driving.
Ok, on to the jerking seizures, (the neuro’s are so far calling these seizures). Basically, I usually feel them coming (reminds me of a sneeze or a yawn type feeling sorta) and then my head snaps back toward my back and then forward and my arms fling out (both) really hard just once ( I hit anything in the area and hard). Then it's over. A few times I've had very hard ones and I haven't had the warning. These are directly influenced by how tired I am. For example: I didn't sleep much at all one night, so the next day I have these jerks all morning, afternoon and evening (total 14-15) and I usually feel pretty terrrible. On a good day where I have had normal amount of sleep I just have one or two in the afternoon and two or three in the evening.
Since I’ve increased my Topamax to 100 mgs. I’ve been more controlled, so that’s nice, I haven’t had any of the long seizures, and the jerky seizures happen less often, in the summer they happened so often I didn’t really know what they were, now I can figure on them only happening about once or twice a day, or a lot if I’m tired.
I dont remember a lot of this, I just pulled this from my time-line and my mum's letters and stuff...
I know this is my experience and yours is probably very different. whatever you are experiencing that is causing you to question seizures, be sure to document it and if possible videotape it, okay? That will give you the best proof of all.

Hi there! Glad I saw this post, just happened in.... I have to run to the library and do some stuff tonight (just cook and wash clothes, really) so I will try to drop by and describe them better later.
What are yours like? Have you had yours video'd or witnessed by anyone?

Hey, sorry to hear about your seizures! Check out my post on my weird thingies - I don't think they're seizures any more, but I'm not sure.
can u tell about the seizures you are having ?
i have ms and i black out with seizures. what was happening before you took a seizure ?
I thought I was having seizures, but I think now they're something else (see below post!)
Complex seizures can involve blacking out. I know that SunnyToday has seizures, and she's being evaluated to find out what's causing her neurological problems. They don't think she has epilepsy - it's just another manifestation of a disorder.
