shaking jaw at ladies group!!

uk2
Hi All

After a bad night of my usual not sleeping and sweating i got up and slowley made my way to my christian ladies group they are a fun bunch of young and older ladies and most with there own medical conditions.

They are use to me hop a long harry lol with my feet on a stool, but today i was weak and tired on the onset and i got this shaking jaw which i have had many a time but normally at home only once in public when i went to A&E with bad vertigo and after the shot in the bum lol i was ok and the shaking stopped too.

I was sitting there and suddendley my whole body went tense and my lips go numb and then my right face tingles and off goes the jaw like i am chattering because i am cold which i am not and the lady gets up and gets me a hot water bottle bless her so embarrasing and i am trying to talk and chatter at the same time and i dont want to explain that the heat wont help as she feels i am cold and gets me a blanket and its not cause i am cold and it will go on its own but i sit there chattering all wrapped up, i dont know what they must of thought still i dont mind.

Now my jaw is killing me and really fatiuged and my whole right side of face is numb and my lips are still numb.

does anybody else have this chattering jaw thing or am i just odd!!!!!!!!

I’ve had these episodes before.  I was diagnosed with TMJ about 15 years ago.  I’ve had numerous problems with my right jaw.  Two years ago, when I had my first attack of MS symptoms, I kept having episodes where the right-side jaw would ‘draw up tight’ and wouldn’t allow me to open my mouth or talk.  Then at other times, I would get the “chatter” movements…affecting my speech.  I also had several episodes where the left side of my entire face ‘drew up tight.’  I thought I was having a stroke or something and almost had a wreck…scared me to death!  I’ve continued to have the right-ear shooting pains over the years, but my jaw pain has gotten better…until yesterday!

I’ve been having burning sensations on my face for over 2 years now…both sides!!  (at different times)  Lately, in this new flare of symptoms, I’m having facial numbness and tingling.  Then, I started getting jaw pain, in not only my right jaw…but now my left jaw too.  Every time I chew…it sets it off…just like it used to do to my right jaw.  With all these facial/jaw episodes…I’m now wondering if all along, I’ve had Trigeminal Neuralgia.  I have a couscin with MS, TN, & Fibro.  Any thoughts???

I do no know anything about this, but I had to comment on the ladies warming you up.  It is so sweet and yet it was probably exactly the opposite of what you need.

I did develop an eye twitch after a minor car accident and both my Dr and my PCP said "Yes your wreck (more like a spin out) could cause that."
Cause WHAT a permanent eye twitch?!? No answers to that one!
The twitch has since moved down my entire face and I do clench my teeth alot with no answers except that I have MS (WOOHOO!)

I do hope you are feeling better!

I'm trying to remember who it was that talked about their whole-body spasms.  They would get tense all over, and sometimes an arm or a leg would flail out.  I don't think it was MCBCON, but he has similar symptoms.

Well.  I have had the shaking jaw, but at the time I thought it was stress or anxiety.  My teeth didn't chatter, but it was certainly bobbing up and down like I was just about to cry - really weird!  Before I was diagnosed, I started having problems with numbness and tingling in the right side of my face, following the areas affected by that nerve.  Then I started having tremor in the jaw and lips.  Everything kinda built up, like you're experiencing, until things got really weird.

So from the research I've done on my symptoms, it sounds like there's something going on with the cranial nerves.  The masseter muscle (the muscle that causes your jaw to bite) is controlled by the trigeminal nerve (mandibular division.)  The trigeminal is also in charge of your lips and face.  Take a look at Wikipedia's entry on the trigeminal nerve.  You can see by the illustration that it goes to the tip of the nose, the lips, the chin, and even under the chin.

The body going tense could be a form of myoclonus.  I get a stiffening in the legs, when I wake up in the morning - I try to move, and my legs stretch out and freeze in place.  I have to consciously think about them relaxing.

Failing that, you could be experiencing a form of hypoglycemia, or even hyperventilating because of anxiety over your symptoms!  Numb lips and tingling, accompanied by shortness of breath, is a sign of a panic attack.  Personally I think it's perfectly natural to experience anxiety over the symptoms you're experiencing.  I had at least one identifiable panic attack early on.

Have you ever had your calcium checked? Did you feel faint with it, like you just got super tired and wanted to pass out? Tingly sensations in your head moving downward or from your feet moving upward? It's probably totally unrelated, but there were just a couple of things you said there that reminded me of when I had my thyroid removed and my calcium dropped (due to the parathyroid glands needing a jump start, in my case). Only yours doesn't sound like it overwhelmed you completely, as mine did, and I ended up in ICU. As I said, probably totally unrelated, but maybe worth a check?
