should i see another doctor

Hi!  I've been searching for some answers and feel like i've gotten nowhere.  I would be grateful if someone could give me some info.  I've had lots of problems for almost 2 years.  I am a 32 year old woman.  At 30 years old, the right half of my head went numb as I was driving home.  it stayed this way for about 4 hours.  Went to ER and had numerous test done including CT scan , bloodwork, etc.  They found nothing wrong.  Over the next few weeks I experienced numbness, tingling, weakness, and just weird feelings on the right side of my bod, face hand, leg, foot.  Went to family doctor.  He said sounded like MS.  Sent me for an MRI of brain only.  Results showed nothing.  He said I had nothing wrong with me , I should just let it go, even though I was still having problems.  I switched doctors.  The new family doctor sent me for an EEG of my brain to see if i was having seizures.  They found nothing.  My symptoms continued but added to these was fatigue and frequent nausea.  Saw the doctor several times, he told me I had allergies, headaches, and finally said it was hormones.  I didn't go back to the doctor for many months.  Most of my symptoms subsided for several months, then the numbness started again, along with some weakness, and hot burning sensations in my right foot.  Also had right half of my tongue go numb.  About a month later i started having extreme dizziness, eye pain in ridht eye, and started seeing spots in my line of vision in right eye.  Went to different doctor at same practice.  She finally sent me to a neurologist.  He ordered an MRI of my brain and neck.  They made me wait 2 months for the results, then told me all was negative.  I am still experiencing symptoms, My right eye hurts, my vision is funny at times, I see spots, and have been experiencing lots of numbness and tingling in my right foot especially.  I don't know if I should just let this go, or should try to see anothe doctor.  I am now 32, and am tired - literally - of dealing with this.  It just scares me.  Sometimes I feel so dizzy I am afraid to drive with my kids in the car.

Can anyone give me some advice?? Thank YOU

I am going to suggest trying to get in with an rheumatologist.  They have a wealth of information about autoimmune diseases.  I can't believe that neuro was like that with you, that is very unprofessional burping and cursing.

And welcome, welcome to our cyber family.

My first neuro was like that..........he just gave up........I FIRED HIM!!! Anyway, there are lots more tests they can do. My brain MRI was normal, but my neuro had me do a spinal MRI because most of my sx could be caused by a lesion on the spine. (at least that is what im told) DONT GIVE UP. Even if it takes you going to a dozen doctors.........you will find one that will treat you with respect and compassion.
I will keep you in my prayers!

Burping???  Okay, you need to be seen by a professional.

And for him to say "unspecified autoimmune disorder" and offer nothing else is off the wall.

I do not have MS, that has been ruled out, but I do have a hyperactive immune system and this isn't something a doctor can toss out there and let it fall anywhere and be disregarded like yesterday's newspaper.

Others here a much more knowledgeable on neurological exams, but I can tell you you need a new neuro.

Hope you can absorb everything being placed in your lap!

They can do a lot more for you.....First of all, they can find you a competant doctor that doesn't burp and curse in your face....Geesh..that's quite unprofessional, to say the VERY least....

Like {{{{Wanna}}}} said, did they do any bloodwork to check for other things like B12 deficiency, Diabetes, Lupus, etc...?

Hello! Thanks for your reply.  I have had a plethera of tests:  2 MRI's. a CT scan, EEG, chest x-ray, they tested me for lyme disease and lupus twice.  Blood tests to check hormones, thyroid, mineral deficiencies, and everything was always normal.  There are times when I feel like this is all in my head.

Thanks for the encouragement!!

Hi Tammy!  Thanks for the support.  I do feel like giving up.  I know my Neuro was just blowing me off.  I'm just afraid the next doctor I go to is going to tell me the same thing.

Thanks!!

Hi!  Thanks for your post.  My exam at the Neuro showed nothing abnormal.  He said my reflexes and everything were fine.  But I don't know if he's very competent.  He was very unprofessional.  He actually burped 2 times while he was doing my exam and also let a few curse words fly.  I was so not impressed by him.  I don't know why he said an unspecified autoimmune disorder.  I'm guessing that was his way of dismissing me.  My family doctor did say she'd refer me to someone else, but I guess I feel that if the MRI showed nothing, what's the point?  What other tests can they do?

Thanks, Heidi

Welcome and you have come to a wonderful place in the world where you are understood and given some great advice and support.

I was curious what blood tests have the doctors done and do you know the results?

Hang in there...

Welcome to the MS Forum.  We are glad that you joined us.

I wanted to ask a couple of questions, to see if I could try to help.  I have been diagnosed with MS for over a decade now.

What did your physical exam at the Neuro's office show?  Did he say that he noted any abnormal reflexes, etc?  If he said an unspecified autoimmune disorder, he should have told you what made him come to that conclusion.  He kind of left you hanging.

I do agree with others, that you should find an MS Specialist.  They will know exactly how to rule in or rule out MS.

Again, we are glad you are here, but wish it was under different circumstances.  Hang in there.  We are there with you.

OMG!  An "unspecified autoimmune disorder"?????  Why didn't he just say, "This is over my head, I have no idea what's going on"??
GEESH!  These doctors burn me up sometimes....

Maybe its time to go back to your family doctor and seek a new referral for a NEW Neuro...There should be more people chiming in soon that have been to 5, 6, 7 or even 8 different doctors before getting the care they need...
I know it's frustrating to wait for a new doctor, wait for more tests, wait, wait, wait...but we will try our best to help you through those steps so you don't give up...

Thank you so much for responding. I am new to this and I truly appreciate your response.  I saw my Neuro about a month ago.  At that time he told me that I may have an "unspecified autoimmune disorder"  those were his exact words.  I felt like he pretty much just blew me off.  But the vision issue and the latest bout of numbness just started about a week or so ago.  Even if I do go back to the doctor, I most certainly do not want to see him again.!!!

Hello and Welcome......

First, I wanted to say that I am so very sorry that you're going through all of this....Many of us here are in the same boat with you, so please know that you're definitely not alone.
There are some here that are diagnosed, some on their way to being diagnosed, some (too many) are just riding the good old "limbo boat".....
Can I ask you when was the last time you saw your Neuro, and have you asked to see him/her again since your latest symptoms have returned??

In my opinion, I definitely don't think you should give up....Maybe you just need to vent a bit (that's what we're here for)--and then you'll have the strength to move on to another doctor, Neuro, etc.....You deserve to have answers to whatever this may be that is disrupting your life in such a horrible way...
Tammy  :)
