simvastatin

I was just reading another post and have a question..

I started taking Simvastatin (zocor)  maybe a week ago and with all my other symptoms its sometimes difficult, if not impossible, to feel any side efects from drugs.  They are the same ones we/I already suffer from.

But....For a week now I have just been worse, all my symptoms from MS are magnified it seems.  I have been down (on the sofa) more than up lately.

Has anyone else had any experience with this drug, I am thinking about stopping it.  I did that before because this drug scares for some reason.  My cholestrol is not that bad either.

thanks, meg

Do let us know what he says...

So if not a statin drug for high cholestrol, what else works.  My neighbot had bad reactions to it too and is now another drug..forget the name of it.

I see my Dr tomorrow and wil also ask her.

hugs, meg

the studies on the effectiveness of statins were mainly done on men.  It has recently been studied on women - and yes, it shows that the effect is not a desirable one.

I started a separate post with the links to those studies....... I'll bump it up for you.

I didnt have to think twice about going off the Simvastatin.  And I am feeling better.

I mostly feel like **** anyway and just to have it get worse is not a good thing for me.

At least right now that is not acceptable. Someone mentioned that statin drugs do not work for women...Is that true?

I took Lipitor and because of insurance was switched to Zorcor. I have been wondering if this was part of the cause of the increase a strength of the spasms? My Dr. said No, but I still question it. I am thinking about telling Dr. Patel I want to go off of it for a while to see if the spasms lighten up a bit..
I'll let you know how it goes...

I had to stop taking Lipitor last year because of the side effects of this statin - I felt like I had the flu, with aches all over.  When the non-stop intestinal side effects kicked in to the point I was passing blood I waved the surrender flag.  I went off the lipitor, with my cardio's knowledge, and almost immediately felt better.

This was all BEFORE I had read the problems with statin drugs.  There are recent studies that are calling for a thorough review of continued use of these powerful drugs.

my heartfelt best,
Lulu

Oddly enough, Simvastatin has also been one of the drugs investigated to slow MS progression.  Can't come up with a site right now since I'm on hold for an important call, but I'll look later.

I've been taking Simvastatin for probably 5 years now.  One thing I've been wondering is, if a person takes both statins and DMDs, is it even harder on their livers?

My elderly aunt just had to stop simvastatin due to sever back and leg pain.  The pain was so bad that she was not steady on her feet, causing her to fall alot.  Last monday it go so bad that I had to call her son to come pick her up and take her home with him.  They read up on all of her meds called the Dr. he stopped the simvastatin and she is much better now and cont to improve.  My husband is on it and has no problems.  As with most drugs, they affect people different.

I've been taking Zocor for years, then they switched me to Vytorin, which is the same drug with another one added to it.  Once in a while some of my liver enzymes are mildly elevated, but I've never noticed a problem that I could readily attribute to either pill.  I do remember that I'm supposed to watch for muscle aches, I think.  Maybe I'll go read up on it again, just to be sure.  Do talk to your doc about it, regardless.

It was Simvastatin that I was taking - if you have read the other post about this you will be aware that I answered.

It just made me feel generally much worse than usual, when I questioned my doctor and asked her about my risks she said my cholestrol was not that bad and the ratio was good. Also they have never proved that statins help women at all!!

Great eh? more drugs for nothing as if we don't take enough.

There was some study that found that statins can actually help with MS sx but they did nothing for me, I felt a bit better as soon as I stopped them - but then feeling pretty rough most of the time at the moment - lol

Got to be your decision though meg - tough one eh?

Be well and take care.

Hi, I have had terrible problems with muscle spasms which were made much worse by taking provochal which is like zocor. 5 days after I stopped taking the provachal my spasms stopped. If I were you and I just started a new drug and then I started to feel bad, the first thing I would do would be to stop that med. I have read where other people had terrible problems with their symptoms because of cholestrol pills. My advise, don't take them anymore and call your doctor............roncart
