sleep and MS

Is not being able to stay awake during the day a symtom of MS?  I have had many other symtoms over the years, have been DX'd with Fibromyalgia, have severe spinal issues, severe headaches (headache since latge July), but now I find myself falling asleep during the day at work at my desk.  It also happened this morning after I slept for 11 hours I was sitting at the desk and fell asleep until my husband clapped his hands to wake me and I found my way to the couch and took a two hour nap.  I need help!  I am scheduled for a consolt in another week about doing a sleep study, but this is getting more and more out of hand daily.  Thanks!

Thanks everyone!  Went to the Sleep Doctor today and he reviewed my history and is setting up the sleep study.  I can not wait, I need to know what is wrong so we can fix it.  I was up all night Friday night, and then still could not get to sleep Saturday night, but ended up sleeping 9 hours after all then fell asleep while sitting and reading 4 hours after waking. I will let you know results and if anyone else has any ideas I welcome them.

Just wanted to mention that B12 deficiency can cause this also. My sister would fall asleep on the pot (sorry tmi I know lol). She litteraly couldn't stay awake, and it turned out to be B12 deficiency.

I hope you find out what it is so you can get some relief from it. It stinks to be tired all the time, I know cause I am but I don't fall asleep like you mentioned.

Take Care,
Paula

Hi! I've not had the constant sleep...I actually have the fatigue, and then insomnia but can take a nap during the day. Pre dx I had a problem with falling asleep in the afternoon at my desk and my neuro told me that was pretty classic MS. Your sleep? Sounds more like depression or as Lulu said, maybe the meds you are taking.

Hi Morgan, welcome to the forum here - I don't think we have met yet.

What you describe doesn't sound to me like MS fatigue.  Fatigue exhausts the body, but doesn't cause the narcoleptic symptoms that you are describing.

It sounds like the sleep study is an excellent idea.  I would also have a doctor help to review the drugs you are on to make sure they are not causing the problem.

Good luck and let us know how it goes,
Lulu
