so upset

Got a call from my Dr. this morning, and he has ordered another round of antibiotics to go with the one I am on, then they will test again, and if it is not gone, then it is IV antibiotics. Apparently, this one I have not is a bugger to get rid of , and it can colonize.  ( who in their right mind would want an E-Coli colony) ?????   no one that I know.  But, apparently it is serious. He was even going to talk to my surgeon for tomorrow, and maybe they will do antiobiotics IV style in the hospital .  Just what I needed today...... grrrr

Sorry for the rant, just had to ... :(

Alex is right - the sweats are not from the MS but probably an infection.  I would like to add with your history of infections this is not something to delay seeking treatment for.  You could be incubating the mother of all infections and if it gets into your blood stream, it would cause further complications.  You know this has to be cleared up before your surgery.

The sweats could be fighting the infection. In my humble opinion a UTI is the worst illness I have ever dealt with. I was less sick from Chemo. Hang in there and if you can drink lemonade drink tons of it. That is how I have kept away from UTIs for over 15 years.

Hi guys, just to top you up, I did Dan, get discharged by the nurse... she was an older nurse that has worked at Victoria General Hospital for a long time.  I was appauled by it all, but, I don'thave it in me to fight back quite yet.  I see my surgeon in just under 2 weeks and will talk to him then.

I do think I'm heading into a relapse, and I'm not very happy about it.  I don't know if it is the surgery, UTI, or what, but I have had the chills, and sweating so bad that I can't even sleep.  I'm wearing socks, and a housecoat for one minute, then I sweat from top to bottom, then am freezing and grabbing for covers.  It is not the HOT FLASH, I've had them for years, and this is different.   Any suggestions out there ???

Thanks for all the comments, Alex, I hope I don't have to fight this for as long as you did, but they have and are talking about IV antibiotics..... don't know if that is a hospital stay, or an out patient. Guess we will find out.

My next surgery is less that  6 weeks now, it is OCT 10 , and I'm on a count down on this one.... getting nervous, having second thoughts, and then I know that we HAVE to do this for my psychy , and to finally be able to disconnect from my father, and say good bye to neck pain, headaches, and holes in my shoulders and such...... and be able to move on with my new life.

THanks again for everything !!!

I had an E Coli UTI that took 4 months to clear. I had IV antibiotics and months of Cipro. That was ten years ago and I have not had a UTI since.

It would be my guess that you had a new graduate RN who probably just passed her NCLEX most likely recently oriented to the unit. Apparently, during her clinical in school, she had not had any experience with a leg bag and the mere fact her time management skills are immature that she could not remember to take your heplock (IV) out.  I'm not giving her excuses, but I also would blame her mentor.

Being on a surgical unit, one would think she had the experience of a leg bag during her orientation..She was probably so caught up with the discharge papers and the new patient coming in she could not concentrate on YOU.

I'm sorry about your experience, it is unacceptable.  If someone doesn't know how to do something, they should ask a seasoned nurse for guidance.  Sometimes opening a new leg bag package and playing with it to figure it out before bringing you a new one and applying it to your foley.  At least appear to look like she knew what she was doing. LOL.

Again, I'm sorry for that frustrating experience.  As LuLu says, when the hospital sends you a press ganey survey, fill it out.  If you new the RNs name, mention it. (even if its only the first name) and the unit.

I hope all is well with you now.

oh my, where did you have that surgery at?  This is inexcusable and I trust you will talk to your doctor about it AND fill out those customer surveys all the hospitals send out these days.

I'm glad you are home and I hope feeling better.
hugs, Laura

How can a nurse not know how to put the leg bag on?  That is insane, I'm sorry!  I hope you are feeling much better soon.

Hi all, just a quick note to say that I'm home now.  Got kicked out 2 days early because they "needed" the bed, so I was not ready to go, so went a little PO'D, but, they did not even take out my IV... it was capped, but they did not take it out, I did that myself when I got home.  I came home with my catheter in,and they gave me nothing for that, and the nurse did not even know how to put on the leg bag.  Like I said, I was not a happy person.

So, we rest at home, and I will take out my own cath, and then will just rest and try a little bit at a time, Got 2 more Dr's appts. to go, then my next surgery, and God willing, my last.

So, keep sipping on that tea, and I am praying for everyone......

so, keep well, and take good care,
Candy
