many thanks for your reply to solitary bright spot, when I had the original mri scan done no trigeminal neuropaty and skull base evalution were carried out because the staff could not read the consultants writting! this is on my examination report, which I could not believe! I am waiting a follow up appointment with the consultant but this is not until december.  I was scanned because back in 2008 I had a whiplash accident, but i never really recovered.  I had a fit in July of this year and have numbness in my lips, weakness in my muscles, pain the the back of my scull and spinal areas, poor balance on occasions. So really I am just looking for some helpful advise really as what could be my problems.  thanks for your information.

Do you know if you had the MRI with and without contrast?  When looking for possible MS they use the contrast and also have MRI's done on the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.  Lesions can also be found there on the spinal cord.

So, it really depends on what the doctor is looking for and what your symptoms are.  A person can have 10 lesions on their spine and one in the white matter.

The semioval center is synonymous with cerebral white matter.  Other than that, your description does not indicate whether this is a post contrast enhancing lesion or  T2 lesion.  Most neurologist will not get too excited about 1 lesion.
