As far as I know, that kind of drastic spasm is spasticity. Spasticity is caused by damage to the spinal cord. When a muscle loses part of its connection to the spinal cord, it has a default setting, which is tensed up. So if it can't talk to the spine, it'll spasm.
Sounds like you've got some damage to the spinal cord in that area, possibly a lesion.
I would talk to your neurologist about Baclofen, or something similar. I can't afford it, so right now we're trying out Flexaril. That seems to take the edge off, but I wouldn't recommend it for severe spasticity.
i am not really a milk drinker but i eat yogurt and love cheese, i do use milk for my cereal i take calcium on a regular basis.
hi jen no this one is not from the side panel lol. thought i would ask as i had about an hour where this kept happening.my hand kind of locks up in a somewhat distorted position when this happens had it once or twice in my legs but so far whatever it is seems to be affecting arms and hands repeatedly.
I've those spasms and cramps, all my blood test showed there were no deficiancy in anything(minerals, vitemins and so on). According to neuro, it is related to my M.S.
I have damage to my spinal cord, which causes spasms. My doctor refers to it as spasticity. It wouldn't hurt to take calcium and potassium, however.
Generally this is due to low calcium or sometimes magnesium.
Try drinking a couple of glasses of milk.
It's not spinal.
The specific drug is quinine sulfate, which, unfortunately the FDA no longer approves for mjuscle cramps. It was sold over-the-counter for this purpose for a century. It's abailable, but onloy through the underground.
;-) Was this another question from the side panel?
It sounds like spasticity to me - injury to your spinal cord will cause unusual cramps or spasms in the muscles leading to that area.
