spastic muscle or just tight muscles?

by dreamyeyes, Dec 27, 2007 07:12AM
OK>>>I am confused. I was just wondering if there is a difference in spastic muscles, muscle spasms or in a muscle just being too tight. All I know at the moment is my neck is in extreme pain. The muscles running down the left side of my neck feel too tight and are preventing me from turning my head from side to side, and shooting pains down the left side of my back. They also look swollen or in knots along that side of my neck. I'm just not sure how to define what is going on with them or if there is a difference. I know my GP said my muscles in the back of my legs are way to tight and that is not normal, and I have alot of problems with the muscles in my neck quiet often, but yesterday was the worst so far and this morning is is worse than yesterday. Even using the Icy-hot during the night has not helped loosen them up. This is not a good thing since I drive all day with my job. Turning my neck to look to the right is almost impossible this morning.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

Your job may be contributing to your neck problems.  Whether a muscle is in spasm or "just too tight," in my opinion is the same thing.  Perhaps your doctor could help with some medication for this.  It wouldn't hurt to have someone give you a gentle neck and shoulder massage several times a week, possibly after applying some heat to that area, to relax the muscles before massage.

You are a prime candidate for neck pain I believe, because of your job.  Making sure you have the proper neck support at night while you are sleeping is vital also.  Your neck should be in straight alignment with your spine, while you are sleeping.  If you have too many pillows, you may be putting some strain on your neck muscles while you are sleeping.

Hope you feel better soon.
