Your job may be contributing to your neck problems. Whether a muscle is in spasm or "just too tight," in my opinion is the same thing. Perhaps your doctor could help with some medication for this. It wouldn't hurt to have someone give you a gentle neck and shoulder massage several times a week, possibly after applying some heat to that area, to relax the muscles before massage.
You are a prime candidate for neck pain I believe, because of your job. Making sure you have the proper neck support at night while you are sleeping is vital also. Your neck should be in straight alignment with your spine, while you are sleeping. If you have too many pillows, you may be putting some strain on your neck muscles while you are sleeping.
