hi quix
funny enough its never usually you - i find your explanations pretty straight forward.
Its only sometimes when members use techno stuff - its not usually abbreviations just big words..
its me i think i do find things hard to grasp and quite confusing at times.. but saying that i am gradually getting used to the words used and getting myself educated in the mean time xxxx
thank u jan xxxxx
Okay, besides the acronyms we do and I do often slip into technobabble. Most of the time I try to avoid it, but it depends on whether I am thinking or not. "Not" has been the most common state recently.
Whenever someone has slipped too deeply into technospeech it would be nice to have a heads up - at least for me it would. I see one of my main roles here as teacher. If the language isn't clear there is no teaching going on. A quick way would be a post on the thread something like:
Quix - ????? and then the word(s) that aren't understood. It should only take a couple of these to help me remember to explain things more clearly.
And I guess we will have to drop the requirement of medical school or a PhD for membership to the forum. I guess that's for the best, lol.
Q
Janjubear -
we have just the thing for you - a health page of common acronyms. We use these as shorthand - it sure is easier to type BPPV than Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
or EDSS in place of Expanded Disability Status Scale
the HP (health page) can be found at
http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Multiple-Sclerosis/Commonly-used-MS-Acronyms/show/438?cid=36
I hope you find this useful.
best, Lulu
Hi Jan, I think having a list of abbreviations or jargon would be helpful. We may already have one though I don't know.
The ones that trip me up are the ones that aren't directly about MS. Like BPPV, or things like that. Sometimes I look them up only to forget them again later.
It's good to find the humor in these things.
