tingly limbs

I was tested by a neurologist a year ago and was told I do NOT have MS. (i.e. no lesions)  However, I continue to have limbs (primarily my right arm and hand) that feel like a cross between having been shot with novocaine and is waking up and/or having a low voltage electricity running through them.  It is quite painful sometimes and when it gets bad it spreads to my left hand and into the right side of my face and the tip of my nose.

If this isn't MS what is it and how can I prevent it?  It definitely gets worse when I am under stress.

HELP!!!

I agree that it doesn't sound like neuropathy, but it does sound like neuropathic pain.  A neurologist should be able to treat the pain while looking for a diagnosis.  Typically, an MRI of the brain and C-spine and possible an SSEP would be of value.  As  Shell mentioned, a disk issue in the  neck could cause pain in all of your limbs.  Realistically, for all 4 limbs to be effected, the problem should be in the C-spine or higher (meaning the brain.)

Let the Neurologist suss it out.

Good luck,

Bob

Hi there,

Adding on a welcome to you.
I'm so sorry for your pain. Have any of your docs checked nerves, or your neck? You don't have to have lesions in your CNS to have what you are experiencing. You could have some impingement going on from your neck. It's horrifying pain I can relate to. What you describe does not sound like neuropathy to me.

Like Lu suggests I would get back w/the neuro to discuss some things. Specifically what you experience with the right side of your face and tip of your nose.

Though stress aggrevates it and you know it, if you can jot down the pain when it happens and when it intensifies. It's a good way to brief yourself before your appt.

Thanks for joining us, and I hope we can help.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum :)

It sounds like you are describing Neuropathy or parasthesia.
Were you happy w/ your old Neuro from last year? If so, then I would make an appt to go in and re-visit your Sx's.  If not, then I would search for a new one Preferrably a
MS Neurologist, and take copies of all test and MRI as well as notes from previous doctor.

Be your own best advocate. You know your body better than anyone and what is normal for you and what is not.  Gotta go w/ that "Gut' feeling. While there are several causes for these Sx, MS is just one of them, you should / have the right to find out what is going on w/ your body and why :)

Take Care,
~Tonya

It is time to go back and see a neurologist  and continue pursuing answers.  It is possible that if another MRI were done now there could be changes.

And was a spinal MRI done?  You could have spinal lesions and no visible brain lesions.

The stress of not knowing what is wrong is so much worse than having answers.  Listen to your instincts and keep pursuing until you find out what is going on with your body.

good luck, Lulu
