what does gliosis mean?

hello,

Does anyone know what gliosis mean and does it mean the same as demyelination? i googled it but really did not get a clear explanation.

Not exactly.  A gliosis is a scarring area in the central nervous system which can be caused by an MS lesion or demyelination, but it could also be causes as the result of a non-demyelinating process like a stroke, a physical injury, etc.

Deb is correct.  An area of gliosis is an area of scarring from an unknown cause.

if I am understanding corretly, it can be  caused from demyelination.

One of my first MRI's many years ago found an "incidental" gliosis in the frontal lobe.  Years later it was described as another lesion.
