wow, this is fascinating. thanks all for sharing your experiences everyone. lulu, i haven't tried to smell it yet--i'll go and see...
indeed i can! thank goodness for that...smelling is nearly as good as tasting (well, in the absence of taste i can say this)!
thanks everyone!

I had the same thing happen to me. Everything tasted "funny". I went to Coldstone ( a delicious ice cream place) for ice cream. I wanted to taste my daughter's ice cream and I swore it tasted like playdough!
Now for the past few months I have the smell of cigarette smoke in my nose. No one smokes that I am around, so it drives me nuts. I can't trust my senses. You're not alone...

I was going to point out this essay and DV got to it first. This MiSerable disease acts up in so many ways, having the taste buds knocked out is just one of the more peculiar ones.
Here's hoping it isn't permanent. Can you at least smell the chocolate? Lulu
Michelle, if you haven't already seen Lulu's post re: Anthony Bourdain's essay contest, take a look:

I also just bumped it back to page 1 of the forum.
The author is a chef and writes about this symptom of MS.
huh, i had never thought that perhaps this could be due to part of my tongue being numb.
very interesting idea jen!
and red, i'm imagining that this really would serve as a great dieting technique!!
haahaaa! love that there is some fun to be had with atleast this symptom!!!
Loss of taste is one of the symptoms that I have. Fortuneately it comes and goes. Like you, a part of me wishes it would come and stay. Then I would eat all the things I don't like and lose weight.

really, you too? well, aren't we lucky ladies...def. no need to battle the mind over whether or not we can have just one little scoop, or one measly bar...
however, i am tempted to continue on eating the chocolate bar on principle alone. terrible to waste good chocolate!!
from what i've read, it does seem like taste and smell can indeed be altered due to damage to nerves.
thanks paula, very funny!
I had some taste change, which went away. Mostly it was a loss of my taste sense - perhaps part of your tongue is numb?
The weirdest was strange smells - I kept smelling a burning moldy paper smell, which I could never track down. I guess it was in my head.
Michelle,
I have had this problem for some time now. I just attributed it to all the meds I am taking but maybe someone can give us both some insight on this one.
Hey just think, if it doesn't taste good you don't eat as much which in return means losing weight, which is an awesome idea for my fat but lmao.
Looking forward to the responses.
