Baby still jaundiced at 14 days

by Sregeem, Sep 27, 2009 06:03PM
my baby is 14 days old and still jaundiced. his jaundice was noticed in the hospital less than 24 hours after birth. his level was 6.5 so we were sent home. we' e been to the pediatrician twice and he didn't seem concerned--the jaundice went down to my son's chest. he lost 10% of his weight (was 9' 4" at birth) but is back on track and gaining well. clear urine and plenty of yellow stool. my mother in law is an ER physician and looked at him today and estimated his level at 5...she didn't seem worried but i'm panicked. why would it still be so high. he is exclusively breastfed.

Visible jaundice in exclusively breastfed infants can last for several weeks.  Since your pediatrician has evaluated your baby a couple of times, you should discuss your concerns with him so that he can address them.
