In-Utero opiate withdrawal

by puellpaea, Oct 20, 2009 04:17PM
Just curious why it is advised not to come off opiates while pregnant. I tapered to a small amount of vicodin (20-25mg now) that has been prescribed during my pregnancy. I am in my 3rd trimester and could deliver any day. Taking this little, why is it dangerous to quit "cold turkey" while pregnant?

I would recommend discussing continued weaning of pain medications with your Obstetrician.  In general, going "cold turkey" would not be particularly beneficial to either you or your baby.
