My Drs have no idea and that worries me, what Dr deals with anti depressants and pregnancy?

Hello there,

Glad I have found this page! I suffer from Severe Anxiety and can't function without paroxetine, I have been weaned off once and I was not too bad for 2 months but the Anxiety did return and I couldn't eat or function at all, lost a stone before  I went back onto paroxetine.

I was trying for a baby, I will wait for a while now. BUT I want kids however I can't do it without meds i'm affraid, None of my Drs seem to know what's safe and what's not and they don't want to make any comments about it yet.

I need to know what it safe to make an informed choice! what type of Dr really, i mean Reall knows about anti depressants and pregnancy as I was to speak to someone who doesn't reach for a book to find out!

This is a very important time in my life and I need to know who is extremely up to date on  this.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH

The type of doctor you want to speak with is called a "perinatologist" or a "maternal-fetal medicine" doctor.  These are obstetricians who have further specialized training and are often consulted in high-risk pregnancies.

The perinatologist can often work with the doctor who helps you with your anxiety to choose medications that will minimize the risk to you and your baby during a pregnancy.

If you do not live in the United States, you may need to ask your current doctor for a referral to the equivalent of a perinatologist.
