My niece just delivered a baby boy by c-section and the baby had fractured rib and hole in his lung.  my niece fell 2 1/2 monyhs before delivery, could that have caused the fx?

It is unlikely that a fall 2 1/2 months before delivery caused a rib fracture in the baby that was present at birth unless the baby has underlying bone disease.  Baby bones heal quite rapidly under normal circumstances.  Your niece should discuss the situation with the pediatrician/neonatologist taking care of her baby if she has questions about possible causes of the fracture.

"Pneumothorax" or collapsed lung can be found spontaneously in normal newborn babies.  Treatment of the pneumothorax depends upon the severity of the problem, and can range from continued observation (without intervention) to placement of a drainage tube into the chest cavity to evacuate the air.
