A Childs leg giving out on them

My father died of a brain tumor, years ago, now my grandaughter, has been complaining on and off of her leg hurting her, and my daughter saw her leg give out on her. She asked if this has happened before and my grandaughter said yes. (My grandaughter is 8 years old.) My daughter took her in for x rays, and is suppose to go to a bone doctor after they check x rays even if nothing show up. If the bone doctor looks at her then what should he look for? Or what test can he do to help. Of course in the back of my mind i worry about the family history!
Also when my grandaughter (same one) when she was 6 years old she got a really bad infection that went behind the eye came from the sinus area,it was next to her brain. So she was in the hospital for along time and they had to go into the corner of her eye to drain it, They were very worried how close to the brain in was, She went home with a pick line in her arm, lots of antib.. for couple of months. Could this have caused or be related to her leg now at all? What test would you run if you had a child like this? Or is there anything we should look for, with her. Please Help out if you can, I worry so much. And i live so far away, i live in Luxembourg, and there back in the states! Thanks, Gram ma Debi

Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with a doctor.

Without the ability to examine and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information.

I think your question would be better served in an orthopedic forum. I doubt the location of the initial infection is causing the leg problems that your grand-daughter is now experiencing. Leg pains can be either from growing, fractures, tumors, infections, rheumatological disorder, etc. The list is long.

Again, I am not an orthopedic (bone) physician. I agree that following up with the orthopedic physician for xrays is best.

Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
