Are hamartomas in the white matter of the brain harmful? Are ostoid Osteomas in the lumbar spine harmful? My son had a grang mal seizure with respiratory arrset in May,98 at which time both of these conditions were found. The neurologists state that they do not know what caused the seizure, they didn"t give us much info on the hamartoma and they are doing cat scans every few months to keep check on the ostoid osteoma. He has an orthopedic and neurosurgeon for the latter. I would also like to know what are the chances of another seizure since they do not know what caused the first but they say his present problems did not.
it seems to me that your son has a neurocutaneous syndrome. I suggest that
you bring your son a peds neurologist who canevaluate and examine your son and will be able to give
you a proper diagnosis. At the cleveland clinic Drs. Rothner and Cohen are both specialist in the neurocutaneous syndromes
