15 Month Old Spacing Out

15 Month Old Spacing Out

Lately our daughter has been "spacing out." More so when she hasn't slept well the night before. It's almost as though she is in a trance and lost herself in La-La Land. 90% of the time we can't snap her out of it, yet when she does she returns to what she was doing prior. Once maybe twice her upper body has also tensed up and she was almost frozen. I've included her recent bloodwork results and other medical issues.

Our daughter has been diagnosed with a large ASD, hiatal hernia, and now ulcers with inflammation. They have run biopsies and allergy testing and nothing is coming up for why she has these ulcers. They're found in the duodenum and large intestine. She has chronic weight loss, and loss of appetite. Her blood work has come back with slightly elevated white blood cell counts across the board, bun/creatine ratio levels, and low RBC levels. As a mother I have a gut-wrenching feeling that there is something else going on that hasn't been found. Were searching for an answer, but it's so difficult.

BUN/Creatine levels were a 55 (range 8-27)
Neutrophils were 11 (range 22-60)
Lymphs were 74 (range 28-66)
Monocytes were 13 (range 3-10)
Lymphs absolute 8.1 (range 1.6-5.6)
Monocyctes absolute 1.4 (range 0.2-0.8)

Side Note: She is on prevacid 15mg, and pepcid 1 ML

I have to agree with Selma in that it sounds like seizure activity. Look into "absence seizures" which can be common and easily missed in children; sometimes they don't even show up on an EEG as a seizure.

Is her loss of appetite resulting in her not eating as much? If this is the case, her body may be 'expecting' food and still producing stomach acid, but with less food being present for digestion is resulting in an excess of stomach acid (the main cause of ulcers). This is just a thought; hopefully, the doctor can elaborate more on this symptom.

Since her bloodwork is far from normal, I would have her levels checked again soon and if they're still abnormal, take her to a hematologist. They would be better at interpreting the results than a GP, and they might be able to suggest a specialist your daughter should see for further evaulation (i.e. a rheumatologist for autoimmune disease testing, etc.).

I hope she gets better soon!
