17 YEAR OLD CHRONIC PAIN

17 YEAR OLD CHRONIC PAIN

I am a seventeen year old female and I was  involved in a car accident in March 2007. I was at a complete stop and and two cars rear-ended me.No matter what i do the pain is always there, most of my pain is in the center of my spine and the left side of my upperback and middleback area. The left side of that area gets numb and tingly. I've had 4 MRI'S(two cervical, one thoracic, one lumbar). I was told I have 3 cervical bulging disks.I was given a variety of pain meds, muscles relaxers, and anti-inflammatories(Nothing worked). I went to physical therapy for 2-3 months but was discharged because they told me they couldn't help me any longer. I did ultrasound therapy, traction, exercises, stretching, tens units, 1 adjustment and massages.I recieved 3 trigger point injections in May.I then started seeing a neurologist and had an EMG and NCV study and both came back normal. I then recieved 4 cortisone injections and it didnt work. After my orthopedic said he couldn't help me anymore he referred me to pain management. I recieved an cervical epidural on Septmber 21st...... and that didnt work either(that doctor told me after the 3rd epidural that i would need surgery).I did not go through with anymore epidurals because my parents wanted another opinion.Ive seen more than 9 doctors so far the only diagnois i am getting is cervical bulging disks. I am now comtemplating pain rehab in miami.I also been having ALOT of problems with excessive urination for about 3 months (like urinating more than 12 times a day when only drinking 2-3 cups of liquid a day). I saw a urologist and had an ultrasound and I have 139 cc of residual urine left in my bladder whens theres suppose to be less than 50 cc, I was put on urecholine 25mg. He doesnt have a clue why a 17 year old has urinary retention...I am going back for urodynamic testing. Any suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated. This is my senior year in high school im missing out on EVERYTHING.

Hi.

I am sorry that your condition has worsened and conventional therapy hasn't given you any relief from the pain.

If you can still tolerate the pain, you could probably undergo the pain rehab in Miami.  However, if that also doesn't work, the last recourse would be surgical treatment.

Before you decide on this course of treatment, you and your parents should talk to your surgeon and ask him to explain to you your options as far as surgery is concerned, as well as their pros and cons.

Good luck.

Hi Sunshine,

I am so sorry about all of your touble and you are right it sucks that your senior year is being missed.  I have a 20 year old who is going through so much also that she is missing her 3rd year of college.  I do not know where you live but I would like to recommend one of the worlds best NEUROSURGEONS I beleive in the united states.  He is here in arizona and his name is DR. DANIEL LIBERMAN.  My mom has had 3 surgerys from him and all very succesful and it looks like my daughter may have to have one too, and I would not let anyone else do that to her.  We also have been to 2 pain mangement doctors who just filled her up with pain meds and pain injections and we were told today that all of that was really unecessary.   So if you think you could come to Phoenix Arizona then I would recomend him....Good Luck
