17mm syrinx

17mm syrinx

It's seems everyone is asking the same question with no results.  I have pain on my left side mostly neck and shoulder pain.  My legs are weak and they twitch.  The Dr. says that the pain is not from the  17mm Syrinx.  Are there any studies that show people are having a lot of pain from these syrinx?

Hello!

Your Doctor should do a search on the internet for syrinx because most websites have chronic pain as the one of the main symptoms of a syrinx.  I too have a syrinx and I experience chronic pain in my back, neck, shoulders and arms with weakening in my legs and arms and hands.  These are all symptoms of a syrinx.  You should really get referred to a Neuro Surgeon that specializes in these sort of conditions.

You can also post in the Chiari Forum too.  They discuss this topic as well.  Alot of people in that forum have the same problem as yourself.

hey..i have idiopathic syringomyelia that was undiagnosed for 4 years and almost paralyzed me. at 18 years old. you need to get a new doctor, the one you have is an idiot. most doctors know nothing about sm, but if you harass to see a specialist. you might get more answers. i went to the head of neurosurgery and they had never seen my case. but i had the shunt put in 2 months ago because of all the sensory loss. i still dont have my left leg but i do have the right one. the only thing the surgery is to help is the loss of feeling and strength. if you just have pain(which syringomyleia causes) then stick with as light of meds as possible. i know a lot of people advocate cannabis. i have had great luck with it. it is less harmful and relaxes the muscles, as well as kills the neurological pain. people do not understand the pain we go through. i have a top neurosurgeon that cancer is much easier to treat than what i have, so dont let some knucklehead doc downplay what you have

Hi there. Syrinx results when spinal cord accumulates in a small area around spinal cord and forms a cyst. In case of syringomyelia, this syrinx can expand and elongate over time destroying the spinal cord. This would mean pain, weakness and stiffness in the back, shoulders, arms or legs. Syringomyelia develops in the centre of the cord and causes a central cord syndrome. Pain and temperature sensory deficits occur early but may not be recognized until late. The first abnormality may be a painless burn or a cut.  Syringomyelia causes weakness, atrophy and fasciculation and hyporeflexia of the hands and arms, a decrease in pain and temperature sensation in a cape like distribution over the shoulders, arms and back is typical. You need to consult a different neurologist if your current doctor denies these symptoms in syrinx. Take care.
