Some odd triggers that make the headaches and pain around the eye worse include: wearing a hat and strong indoor florescent lighting, computer/tv, sunlight. I cant wear glasses or focus my eyes on a TV/computer without having a horrible headache and my eyes becoming dry.
I have seen a neurologist who dismissed my case and said i was depressed (which i hear is common so iam waiting to see another neuro) and a opthamologist and I have had a CT scan and MRI of the brain which both came back normal, general blood work that came back normal, and had my eyes checked which were fine except my eye pressure was high. i was prescribed glaucoma drops but was told i dont have glaucoma, which made me wonder would intercranial pressure be the cause of this? I have yet to have a lumbar puncture because i was told it was uneccesary by doctors because i dont have a fever but iam not so sure that CSF doesnt have something to do with this should i pursue that avenue?
These ongoing headaches and inability to tolerate light have lead to me having to quit my job. The doctors dont seem to know whats wrong there now telling me it may be anxiety related frankly because they lack the knowledge or time to deal with this but i have heard many stories so iam glad iam not the only one. Does anyone have any ideas on the cause or even what tests i should be pursuing??
Hi Andrew!
Well I`m no medical expert but you have alot of symptoms that I have and I have IIH or Psuedotumour Cerebri as it`s more commonly known in the USA.
With this condition then your CT scans or MRI and indeed your blood work would all come back as normal...the only thing that is confusing is your eye problem, you have high eye pressure which would indicate Glaucoma...having high CSF pressure would affect your optic nerve(papilledema)but your opthamologist would have picked up on this...it is however possible to get IIH without Papilledema,it`s just harder to diagnose!
The only way to be sure is a lumbar puncture but your neuro sounds like he`s not going to grant one,go to another one!
ya what's interesting is the eye pressure went from 30 down to 12 by itself in a matter of 1 week after i went back to the opthamologist. the opthamologist said i dont have glaucoma but why did my eye pressure fluctuate like that? he didnt seem to know. also with the headaches in the morning when i wake up i usually have a headache around my eyes then as i raise my head the pain starts to strike the top/back of my head for the rest of the day and leaves around my eyes, does this sound like intercranial hypertension or hypotension?
Hi . I read your post and have a few ideas, having been down this road myself. I have IIH as well but the first diagnoises was cluster migraine. If you look it up it sounds like you have a lot of the symptoms. It is characterised by, a very bad headache, red , sore and running eye, sensitivity to light. there is a lot of help for this problem, once it was been diagnoised.
As for the ocular pressure, there is a great variable with it.It all depends on what your normal is. Of course there is a ball park figure, 13-17 but we might not all fit in to this. Mine has been creeping up for the last 4 yrs.24-24 up from 18-19.Then last week it was 13-21! Go figure. I would say, as long as your opth is aware of the problem and is keeping an eye open for glacoma it will be ok. My opth doesnt think that the ocular pressure and the cfs pressure are related.
Do go and see the new neuro.Anyone who says its depression-walk out! That just means they dont know. Best of luck.Cath278.
