2 weeks of headaches and vision problems

2 weeks of headaches and vision problems

I started getting headaches on the right/back side of my head about 2 1/2 weeks ago. They started out slight but after drinking alcohol heavily one weekend they got pretty intense for a few nights. I saw a doctor and got an MRI which turned out all good except for some inflammation of the jaw. Every 4 or 5 days I have been getting these pretty intense headaches that start on the right side and kind of move around. These headaches are accompanied by wavy vision that makes it hard for me to focus on one thing for a long time, especially when sitting in class as I am a college student. Besides the vision problems I am experiencing a watery right eye, sore neck, diarrhea, runny/stuffy nose, and nausea all at different times throughout the day. My doctor gave me some oxycodone at first to treat the headaches and then went on to give me imitrex and a z-pack for the cold symptoms.

It has been about 11 days since my first bad headache and last night I took my first imitrex because I felt another bad headache coming on. The imitrex helped for around 4 hours to bring my headache down to a slight one but after the 4 hours I got nausea/malaise until I went to sleep. None of the symptoms have really gone away and I have also been experiencing some ringing in my ears and the vision problems seem like they may be getting worse. The nausea has been making it hard for me to eat but I try to get 3 good meals in a day so that I may get better. I am 20 years old and have never had these problems before. If anyone has experienced something like this or know what it could be please let me know.

Hi there. Your symptoms need to be investigated for migraines with aura. headache usually front of head, on one or both  the sides of temples along with nausea, vomiting, irritability, low blood pressure, sensitivity to lights, sound, etc. aura associated with migraines could include blind spots, blindness in half of your visual field, paresthesia, weakness or visual hallucinations. You need to be investigated for migraines and tension headaches by a neurologist. Your vision needs detailed testing by an ophthalmologist. hypertension and hypotension need to be checked. An MRI brain is warranted to rule out any intracranial lesion and MRI spine for ruling out cervical spondylosis and degenerative disc disease.  Therapy would depend on the diagnosis. Multiple sclerosis would also need to be excluded. Treatment for migraines include drugs that prevent the attack like anti convulsants and drugs which treat an attack like triptans, ergots etc. discuss these with your neurologist with regards to your condition. Hope this helps. Take care.

I have received an MRI that came back fine with some jaw inflammation. The neurologist will not be able to see me for about 3 weeks and I am concerned because my vision seems to be getting worse and I have been feeling generally worse. Also I have been experiencing diarrhea daily and between meals that is contains yellow fluid. I don't know if that makes a difference but it has been hard to keep meals down and I am starting to think that maybe I am not getting proper nutrition and that might be making me feel worse. Thanks for the help.
