  Hello Everyone,
1.)  Can grinding teeth increase the pain of Tigeminal Neuralgia?
2.)  Can TN spread from one side of the face to another?  I've had pain across one side of my face; now it seems to be spreading to different places on the other side.
3.)  Can hot and/or cold pads help reduce the pain?
  Thanks much!

Thanks for the question Bernadette.
Question 1) yes teeth grinding can increase the pain from TN. Pain from TMJ is sometimes confused with TN. Many patinets also report that brushing their teeth makes the symptoms worse.
2.) TN is usually localized to one side of the face. Cases of bilateral symptoms do occur but are rare. If you develop bilateral symptoms an MRI scan should be completed if not previously done. Often times bilatreal TN has been associated with connective tissue abnormalitiessuch as scleroderma or mixed connective tissue disease. A rheumatologist can help with this.
3. hot and cold packs? if it helps use it if not don't - everyone is different.
We have answereed questions on TN a number of times so you can review through the archives for more information.
