Hi,

Steroids are the first line treatment for ADEM and have to be continued for about 3-6 weeks. The complete recovery from ADEM may take upto one month to six months. However it is important to monitor response to steroids if the patient is not responding to steroids immunoglobulins have to be used in conjunction with steroids.
