ALS - Muscle Fasciculations

I was having some back pain, followed by weakness in the left foot and left leg.  Now I am having weakness in the right leg also, and muscle fasciculations in upper legs and some in arms.  My family doc does not believe that my back could cause all the problems, but after leaving him I found out from an MRI that I have a bulging disc L-5, S1.  I found a problem called radioculophy (sp) on internet that says the bulging disc could cause damage to a nerve, or nerves and cause weakness in both legs..... ** Looking for hope that I do not have ALS.... * Could the bulging disc problem cause fasciculations in lower and upper extremities.. Family doc says no, chiropractor says yes.??
Again, looking for hope...... (I'm a 58 year old white male.)

A bulging disc could possibly explain your low back pain and lower extremity symptoms, although the level it is seen in the MRI is inconsistent with symptoms in the arms.  It is best to consult a neurologist to fully assess the nature of your condition and to prevent its further progression.
