ALS? Or something else?

by JLWC, Nov 14, 2008 03:45PM
I am a 34 year old female.  I am in generally good health, although I am on 20mg daily of Lexapro for symptoms of GAD.

For the past two months, I have experienced muscle twitching in my left arm.  At first it started in my upper arm, near my shoulder.  It was persistent for a couple of weeks, and I could see the twitching under my skin.  Although it was painless, it was very annoying!

Currently, I'm having twitching in my forearm.  This twitching also causes my middle finger on that hand to curl just a little bit.  Again, it is painless, but persistent.  It's been going on for several days.

The twitching does not hinder my everyday life.  I can function normally, but at rest the twitching occurs often.

My left arm does feel a little weak.  Two years ago, I had xrays of that same arm for pain in my elbow.  I was at that time diagnosed with arthritis in that elbow.  I have bouts of pain on and off in that area.

I've looked up the twitching symptoms online and found that it could be a symptom of ALS, which scares me greatly!  But could this be cause by anything else?  The arthritis?  Maybe something completely seperate?

Yes, I also wondered if it might be related to my anxiety, or even a side-effect of the Lexapro?
