ALS symptoms

I am 35 yr Female, since December of 2010 I have had twitching in my legs, arms, feet and hands. Recently I have lost muscle in my hand (pinky joint with mild cramping) and forearm, right buttocks (large indent) and both thighs.

My doctor has "confirmed the muscle loss" and referred me to a neurologist.

He also said I had brisk reflexes in my arms and legs.

My question is there anything else it could be..lymes?

Thank you for you help!

Thank you all!

Hi there. The symptoms sound like ALS, which is a form of motor neuron disease caused by degeneration of neurons, located in the ventral horn of spinal cord.  Since the muscles are unable to function due to degeneration of upper and lower motor neurons, they weaken and atrophy.  The disease has other symptoms like rapidly progressive weakness, brisk reflexes, muscle atrophy and fasciculation, spasticity, dysarthria and dysphagia. the other plausible conditions which can mimic these symptoms and need to be excluded like HIV,  HTLV, Lyme disease, tick borne encephalitis, multiple sclerosis, spinal muscular atrophy etc.  Your neurologist should be able to help further. Hope this helps. Take care.
