About How long will my mother live

by DesperateDebbie, Nov 16, 2008 10:22PM
My name is Debbie. I am a 32 yr. old mother of a 2 yr. old boy, Robert. My mother was diagnosed with a glioblastoma on June 5th 2008, the next day she had brain surgery to remove the maglinant tumor from her frontal lobe. She went through 33 treatments of radiation, was ... [More] on chemo along with steriods and pain medications...etc. She seemed fine after surgery after a few weeks she was doing pretty good physically, but the steriods and the tumor had resulted in many different personality changes. She always seems either aggitatied or just in pain, or crying. She is scared to death. She is afraid to sleep at night because she thinks that she may not wake up. This was her first surgery it is now Nov.16th, 2 weeeks ago she had another craniotomy. Another tumor had grown a few cenemeters away from the orginal glioblastoma. She had surgery again about a week ago. She didn't seem to take to this one as good as the first.  For the past 3 days she has been in severe pain. It scares me that this is already her second surgery in only 5 months of the diagnosis. Anyway,  Doctors claim that she shouldn't be in this kind of pain.  Her legs and feet are swollen to the point of severe pain and actual fluid is dripping from her feet. She is having trouble with her vision also. Last night fluid starting seeping from her incision. Today she was taken to HUP emergency. Doctors said that she has some type of infection. She was admitted a couple of hours ago, about 9pm. Tomorrow they are going to draw some fluid from her spine to test it and see actually what kind of infection she has so they know how to treat it. They are talking about maybe having to place a tube in her head to drain out the fluid. I am so scared for her, and the worst part of it is I can't do one thing to help her. My family and I are watching her suffer everyday.  If anyone has any information or hope that they would like to share i would appreciate it. I don't know where else to turn. Can you tell me what to expect as far as her survival rate?
