: I would like to know if and how it's possible that
OCDObsessive-compulsive disorder's and depression both can be treated with either
therapy or medication (or perhaps both together).
Are these biological or phsycological diseases?
Are both
OCDObsessive-compulsive disorder's and depression a symptom of the lack of
serotoninSerum serotonin level?
=Dear Greg, patient's with
OCDObsessive-compulsive disorder will usually develop depression and anxiety secondary to OCD as the disease progresses and their inability to expel/control their compulsive thoughts continues. In addition, OCD patients begin to develop increasing anxiety and fear that an idea may eventually transform itself into a new compulsion or added on to a pre-existing one. It is true that both depression and OCD can respond to behavioral modification techniques and antidepressents (both tricyclics and serotonin reuptake inhibitors). However, it is unclear whether both disorders can have as their underlying cause a decrease in serotonin and nothing more. Hope this helps.
